Small Scale Military Headquarters

How do you display your 1:18 aircraft? From the size of them I suppose putting them on a wall shelf or a bookcase shelf is out of the question. And what's the best way to hang them from the ceiling?

I've got 50 aircraft hanging in this room right now I use fishing string with eye hooks. I've yet to have one of the strings break under the weigtht.

I use plastic cupholder hooks that i super glue to the ceiling with Locktite. Fishing line holds the planes. Only one crash in five years and that was because i used way too light a test line to hang my Apache. It survived the five foot drop completely undamaged. I re-hanged it with 20 pound test and it's flying high for two years now.

I have my German planes on shelfs 19 of them 1/18 and 12 1/32 and the US in boxes in closet. Hope 21st sells the 10 plane stand soon

Mostly in boxes. I've decided to display the armor pieces instead for now.

I have my planes hanging by 17 lb. line in the basement. All the planes I have with D-Day stripes are flying over the German tanks and troops.

I have some of my planes hanging from 50lb line from large eyehooks on the ceiling, with a couple displayed on a coffee table.

I used to hang all my planes from the ceiling, when it consisted of the "cottage cheese" style plaster. However, after my father replastered it and was less than thrilled with the many, many holes, I now only hang 4 and have 2-3 on the coffee table display. The rest are stored in a cupboard or the attic and are periodically rotated through.

I have several hanging from the ceiling, mostly fishing line and drywall anchors. One cool display is a BBI hornet and a P-51 mustang in a sort of "legacy Flight" fly by.
I also have one mounted nose down, flat on the wall. Its not everyones taste but I think its pretty striking.

Right now my planes are hanging from my ceiling except for my Mustang which is in a display case. Its starting to get tight boys, space is getting limited!

I display mine on the shelf at wal-mart Wish I had more room for larger size.I will get a few but going to be VERY picky because of the space issue.

I just took a candid shot of my room. That is my wife's head at the bottom, hehehehe. As some of you know, we split our "hobby" room into 2 halves. Hers and mine, right down the middle....... There is one plane not showing, but you should see 13.....

I use metal hooks that screw into the wall and I display them around the top of the wall in my study. It works well and you can easily take them down and put them back up.

I've got 4 old wood/glass display cases from a gun store that closed down after 40 years locally- the 1/18 armour looks good on the lower shelves of two of them, the upper two shelves get the 1/32nd armor. The other two have almost all the 1/32nd 21st aircraft offerings. Also, the basement came complete with a fruit of the loom clothing shelving setup (probably five n dime circa 1960). The middle shelves are good for 2 ft, the lower shelves about 3ft in depth; these are good for 1/18 aircraft, rotated occasionally at request of my son. The strips at edge of the shelves advertise "sanforized shorts" as well as listing sizes. It would be logical to hang some over the work area, but I have'nt done that yet.

I was using Contico 5 shelf system, but they are not available for what I want to pay for them. They were $30 from Lowes, but now only ACE has them for $60 Anyway, the replacement ones I found are Black&Decker for $34 at WW. Same size 36"W, 72"H and 18"D. Then I get 2x4 1/8"thick board from Home Depot, and cut it to fit the shelf(keeps the things from falling through the shelf) Then I finish it off w/ Under Cabinet lights. If anyone whats to see more detailed pic, let me know & I will post. Total for each shelf assembly $61 plus tax

I display mine on shelves that go about 2 feet deep into a wall. The shelves are about 4ft wide and there are 5 of them.

ww2collector, WOW! That is one nice display! I like the idea of displaying the pieces on shelves more than hanging them from the ceiling. That gives anyone whose interested a better view to admire them. I have no idea how I will eventually display mine since I have a lot of artwork and militaria I plan on displaying in the same room. The room is also a "computer room" too so the computer desk takes up a lot of wall space.

That's one heck of a display Collector! I love the way the lights shine on the models and give them that expensive car dealership feel. It just makes the models look so much more classy. Congrats on a job very well done Sir.
