Input Needed For Custom Painting Aircraft

Hey Guys ,

I heading off to work this morning ( I thought I said I was semi retired  )

Anyway I have been thinking

A lot of custom painted 1/18th scale aircraft.

It looks like every single one that has been done , no effort was attempted in filling the fuselage , wing and empennage joints .

Of course the wing saddle area can not be filled because the wings on the most part are removable.

Is this a non issue or would you guys who are inclined to buy a custom paint job would like for these seems to be filled ?

Hi Pickle . As a long time Model Builder it is a golden rule that all gaps are filled and sanded and the hundreds of Models i built and sold to Vets and Collectors were always done like this, so if i was to do a repaint i would be doing that as it make it look more accurate and i was one of those people who had to weather the finished product . :D

I agree as well .

But of all the custom that I have seen no effort at all was taken to fill these joins.

Maybe they should have been.

I have seen Skyjerks
Airstrike
The Hun

These guys back in the day did not make the effort.

I am not really sure but I think even J new Boy did not feel the joints as well.

Unless I am mistaken.

I fill the joints only occasionally. It just depends. If it's just a repaint I usually don't. If I am doing a serious repaint I will.

I suppose it is up to the Buyer if he wants to be able to pull it apart and store it or to have it on display permanently and like you said Pickle those other guys ( Skyjerks) were just lazy when it came to detailing .

It depends, like Flyboy said. The last aircraft I did was your Stuka G and that work speaks for itself I think. Right now Im doing a 262 nightfighter and it really doesn't need much, some putty on the tail where there was some splitting. If you recall my Me-163 from skyjerks it was all gap filling, the whole thing was one big mess but came together in the end.
