Using GiJoe to Supply your Troops

Since Joe guys often discuss how XD, bbi etc....allows them to outfit their Joes, I wanted to solicit comments on the best (realistic is key) Joe gear for our 1:18 military needs. Now that DTC Joes are under 4 bucks, I have been willing to buy some just for the equipment, something I never used to do (thanks Tderespino).

For example, thanks to a fellow board member I realized that the new "Barrel Roll" figure has a removable ammo vest perfect for your modern SF or Civilian Contractor. However, it is too small - the GiJoe has a 20 inch waist. But if you pluck the robe off a Sahara guy you will see the body is very small, and the vest will fit. The figure also includes a realistic helmet with headset - perfect for modern strike force.
You could see the gear here:

Also, the new "Lowlight" comes with a black vest that also does wonders on a modern figure. I was also pointed towards "Crosshair"

who has a nice sniper rifle, hip sack boonie and ghillie suit, but I am not sure how the gear would fit our guys (anyone?). Any other suggestions? Thanks! :D

Digger,
Only suggestion on getting the items to fit is to slice a side on the vest and suit to get it on the XD guys and sew or glue them back in place.

I found the heads from the GI JOE figs w/ bubblegum will fit on a new BOB figure body. Of course the head won't turn, but it does fit in the space that the open collar has.

Great Thread digger!!!

Now we are talking....I have been using GI joe stuff for custom fodder for years... Sometimes it does get expensive..

Some of the figures go right into the kids toybox,
(there are about 2$$ now)

but sometimes you score!!

lots of the current GI joe weapons are true to scale..

Take this guy,, lots of extras,, removable mask,,reserve parachute
and his weapon is very close to a vietnam era Stoner!!

cool stuff...

more to come,, gota charge up the camara....t

Yup

TD, I forgot to mention him - he pretty much has the same Stoner as the VN Navy Seal. The DTC guys I've noticed have pretty good scale weapons...

A personal favorite of mine from the DTC line is Major Barrage. My only gripe is his 'roid physique. But, you got a figure with removeable vest, decent camo pants and plane white undershirt. Pretty decent for a depot grunt.

Done :D He is now wearing a head scarf and has joined my modern SF. He has the facial hair and everything 8) I don't mind how jacked he is but he's so cut up  it looks a bit odd :P
The funny thing is his file card says he's 6'8" But in fact it allows him to join the 1:18 scale guys because he is bigger than the average, er, Joe.

For many years, I have also used Gi Joe, PTE, and others to custumize my figures.
Here a few SF modern troops that i custumized using Joes:

Well, for a lot of us there sure is a lot of potential using other brands accessories, as i always say, "Beauty is on the eye ofthe beholder"

keep up the fun!

Yea Joes have some spot on stuff lately which is great :D

There`s a fair few removable vests too from them also.

Though as Ranger said don`t forget PTE too, they have some outstanding stuff as well.
Same with Eversparkle too. I know a lot of people bin there stuff but there NVGs are spot on for 80s era.
There respirators are good for some Euro countries.
They do a protech that`s almost the same as the BBI Buggy Driver one.

They do cases,boxes etc.

There`s a lot of stuff out there from various brands really.
