Small Scale Military Headquarters

Well kind of . I finally retouched it and it looks much better than before. Also just picked up the 1:18 (metal & heavy) standing pilot for a bargain price. The only catch is I have to paint it which I don't feel too confident but will give it a try. Here are pictures of before and after the work. You could still see the spots if look closely.

Nice refit job. How did you remove the spots? cotton fabric with a drop of thinner?
The pilot is also very interesting. Could perheaps be used to make a mold for many resin or polystyrene rebuilts. What brand is it?

I used airbrush to retouch the spots. I used Model Master paint 1730 & 1709 .
The pilot came attached to a big square base which wraps in masking tape so I think the manufacturer name is under the base. I will have to undue the tape to see it.

Testors Model Master acrylic Flat Gull Gray paint (I forget the serial number off the top of my head) was the near-perfect match to the gray base-coat on the JSI plane. Using some careful masking and preferably an air brush, one could easily abate or completely remove the spots. One member had success using a sponge for a similar effect.

On my plane, I abated, but did not completely remove, the spots using the Flat Gull Gray paint and an airbrush. You can still see them if you look closely on my plane and it gives the plane a worn weathered effect. I think that was what JSI was trying to go for, just they never thought their process through...

Granch, there is a very long thread around here from 2009 where members discussed various ideas for de-spotting the JSI F-14. I want to say a new member just brought it up from the depths a few months ago...
