As I searched on eBay for 1/18 item, I found and bought this Desert Buggy, but not satisfying result: very toyish, no solution to keep the grenade launcher amo box in a right place, and really too big (I assume that no scale is mentionned on the box, didn't notice that before). Even bigger than the bulky Powerteam Elite World Peacekeepers... Here some pics to avoid you the same costs. Eventually this item could match better with 1/16 scale vehicles, it is 9 1/2 inch long when the BBI's one is about 7 1/2.
There is only one really good 1:18 DPV and that is the BBI version. I believe its the right scale, has good weathering, and looks the most realistic. It unfortunately does not have the front-mounted 40mm grenade launcher, but that is easy to customize
Here's a few diorama photos I took several years ago in 2009 - actually out in a real desert
I know the Bravo Team USMC tankers aren't the most accurate figures, but they look good enough to fit the part. I've made a few more modifications to the vehicle since the pictures were taken, but its still essentially the same.
tmanthegreat, thank you for sharing your nice pics. I agree with you, BBI's the best. Was initially not convinced with the dark colour for a desert vehicle on light sand, but perheaps in the night? Had a look on google, they are really black, some with GPS and other antennas and not all with a grenade launcher. Couldn't find a pic of a buggy with the recoilless 10,5cm gun, could also be an interesting custom...
