Hi all,
Just curious as I haven`t gotten around to getting him yet.I do have Peiper though not Wittmann.
Michael Wittmann DML piece for those who`ve not seen it..
http://www.dragonmodelsltd.com/html/001p1.htm
My question is about the turret of the Cromwell. Does it seperate from the base fairly easily?
Also is it a complete turret?
I ask these questions,as I think I`ve got the perfect base hull for a Cromwell tank. As said not got this DML piece yet,so wanted any intel on it

It`s another project I won`t be starting till after I`ve finished the STUG. I`ll be doing the M8/M20 & Cromwell roughly at the same time, all going well (Late this year/early next year)
If the info is good & once I`ve gotten one of these sets I`ll show the end result

Maybe even a few WIP shots too
I already have done a few WWII Brits inc 2 RTC crewmen.
So if anyone can help with info & more importantly photos of the turret from various angles. That would be fantastic
Also be my first full British Armour custom too.
Thank`s in advance,
Ja

what hull are you going to use for the Cromwell?

Was wondering when that would come up
I actually have 2 hulls aside.
Need to check a few things but one is the GI JOE MOBAT tank & the other is a Chap Mei/cheap type tank i have.
The Mobat once the Joe hull is removed looks perfect with the 5 road wheels. You can either strip out the battery/motor section or leave it depending on how you feel (personally i strip).
Also width on the Mobat can be sorted through some rework. I`ve done this for the basis for a few others,so I know it works.
Though as said I`ve got to get all info on the Cromwell, though on first impressions the Mobat is indeed a good looking candidate IMO.
So there you go Aferg hope that helps mate & also to any others who are toying with the idea.
Add that Mobats can be found very cheap both in the US & UK,it`s a perfect base for a lot of armour ideas I find.Just depends on how much work your willing to throw in on chop & change the hull of course.

To my knowledge,
the turret is glued pretty good to the base.....and it is not as detailed as the turrets in 21st tanks....it does show some battle damage.
But the turret is pretty fixed to the base.
hope this helps,
take care.

Thank`s mate.
Anything glued though can be removed.Just depends on how & avoiding any damage of course......lol
The battle damage,Yea I saw the tank kill shot, though that can be fixed like anything.
It`s just the turret par sa is there with cannon & working hatches. So a little TLC to the turret is I think better than scratch building one
Still any more input please guys

haahha!
that is a trick..concept!
you know, they are actually computer hardware cardboard protectors...which actually look pretty realistic to me!
you know, that recycle cardboard that comes with the computer parts...i had some around and i used it....
so what do you think of it?
let me know!
take care

does any one know how to customize the figure?
when i got him a couple years ago or so i was kind of upset when he showed up and i realized his leggs are stuck in a completely non standable pose!
customize

I don't have the Whittman figure but I do have the Joachim Peiper figure and have customized it... I used an xd german tanker( the feild green one) the arms fit right into the torso but you have to extend the torso a little because this figure is quite short when compared to an xd figure... what I used was the belt/waist part of the xd and glued filled some space and paited everything black ... his uniform is supposed to be leather, but now he kind of looks like a winter combat ready troop

Well if he`s like the Jochem Peiper figure i presume the waist is swival type?
If so I can suggest popping that & using PTE,Eversparkle,XD legs instead or even DML too for easy customs.
It really depends on how much work you are willing to do mate on giving Wittmann articulation
Hope that helps.

yea the waist articulation is swivel type that uses a peg just like xd but I broke the xd figures peg and had to improvise .. this particular one really was a quick custom

thanks guys, im not really a very experienced customizer, the few i have done were star wars.
do you have any advice on how to disasemble the figure ?
i dont really do dioramas, because of space i just like them lined up nice and neat.
so im not really even worried about the arms, i just want him to be able to stand up.
im perfectly happy with the joachim figure, i had considered getting another joachim figure to use the legs on wittmann.
but then i noticed the joachims waist swivels at the top of the belt and the wittmann swivels at the bottom of the belt, so he would have 2 belts, which may actually look kind of cool

.
but yeah i dont know how to take the figure apart?
do the lems on these come of easy like the xd figures?
and how do you take it apart at the swivel hip?
thank you very much,shannon.
