21C 1/18 Spitfire landing gear problems?

Post by tko24 » Thu Nov 10, 2005 5:56 pm

Has anyone else had the main landing gear on their 1/18 Spitfire break?I fixed it once with superglue and it broke again.I'm going to try epoxy next.Just wondering if this happened to anyone else?If so, how did you fix it?

I had a gear strut on my FW190 break and fixed it by using a small dremel drill bit to bore a hole into each broken piece and then ran a small wire into both sides and secured with super glue. Hope that helps.
I only worked the bit by hand so I could control it. (I did not use the dremel)

It's broken right at the base.It broke the first time I retracted the landing gear.I didn't expect it to be so brittle and spindley.I wonder if the ME109G has this tendency too?I also wish that BBI and 21C would make the tires the proper size(width) as well. It's the only thing that holds these things back detail wise.A P-47 with those super skinny tires just doesn't look right!

Are you meaning the hinge? I had no problem with any of my Spitfires. The 109 is probably one of the more robust planes out in 1:18...

I know my Spit landing gear is cracked, but its hanging off the ceiling now so I haven't done anything with it.

I believe DocTodds suggestion would work best, maybe after putting the wire in you could use an epoxy to seal the deal(bad pun) if you don't have the glue gun. As far as the the 109 I have never had any touble with the landing gear and I have owned as many as 6 at one time. (For some of you guys I know thats a small number) but overall the 109 is pretty robust(except for the antenna).
