If the original page from the Army Ordance Department manual giving info and size info, is any help to you, I can copy that for you. Send me a PM with your email address & I'll send it.

I've got a few pics of M8/M20 on my webshots if they help.

Good luck with your project.

Are you going to use the truck as the chassis basis or doing a complete scratchbuild?

I may have some drawings. I'll check tonight and send them to you if I can find them.

Tires are different. 1 1/2 truck tires are 9.00x16. M-8/20 tires are 9.00x20. Don't sound like much of a difference but it is.

Distance from front wheel to FIRST rear wheel is 80" on the M-8/20, same distance is 104" on the 1 1/2 ton truck.

Those alone would make a funny looking M-8/20 :P

There are some 1/16 metal model trucks around whoose wheels would be about the right size to use on a M-8/20. The trucks I'm talking about have six wheels so that helps...only drawback is they are not NDT tires. :(

I've always been puzzled why 21st didn't jump on a 1:18 version of these vehicles. They should be dirt cheap to produce.

I hadn`t even thought of using the XD truck. I intended to scratchbuild, though i may check the 1/16th trucks for this :D

Thank`s guys. Though CorpBob I`m with you mate I would have thought 21st would have done this vehicle in 1/18th. Do the basic & then do the turret version, double the money on one mold lot i would have thought.

Has your research included the Squadron/Signal publication "U.S. Armored Cars in action"?, which is Armor Number 37.

Great pics from all sides of dozens of M-8's & M-20's. Also has interior pics and detailed drawings of the 37mm and all parts not normally seen. No dimensions, just the drawings on alot of the rarely seen parts.

Pics are great.

Joining the crew, I would feel this one would be a natural for 21C, basically two vehicles with only the turret (or lack of one) as the difference between the two.

truck conversion

A while back I had thought briefly of using a truck chassis as a foundation for an M8 conversion. The tires looked pretty similar to me but I didn't realize tire size was different, thanks for info. Personally I'd probably be willing to live with the difference for the trouble of making new ones. As far as length of the truck chassis, I agree it is too long BUT that is easy to correct by simply chopping it and regluing at the correct length. Just a thought.

I have a copy of New Vanguard 53 on the M8 and M20. There are no drawings for all sides but I do have one from the side and top. I'll try to scan it for you if I can get enough time away from my job

I've come up with about 20 good quality pics in MV magazine. Far too many for me to scan and send. I'll copy them for you and mail them to you if you want.

Send me your name and address on PM and I'll send them out to you.

These pics don't include the great pics and paintings seen in the Squadron/Signal "in action" book. These new pics I found are mostly pics taken at APG tests in the development of both the M-8 and the M-20.

The more I see these really great vehicles, the more I like it. Looks like one of the full 1/6 M-8/20's is in my future next year. They cost some serious dollars but come as the M-20 and for more bucks you can get the M-8 turret,.... two vehicles in one :P I have the Hasbro M-8 and it is really obviously under scale.

I have more pics in my collection of pics of both M-8's and M-20's at various parades and shows I've attended. Over the weekend I'll dig them out and post them on my Webshots. I'll let you know when they are "up".

Steelbonet:

All the info I found I scanned and sent to you by four e-mail's. Let me know if you don't receive all the info or if you need something further.

Give me a few days to find parade/show pics of mine that I haven't put on my Webshots site and I'll load them up.

Again, good luck.
