and don't forget F-4 Phantom now number one on the 1/24 scale jet list
and number 2 on overall 1/24 list behind 1/24 F4U
if we had a 1/18 poll i think F-4 would be number 1

in 1/32 Tamiya makes 5 different F-4s at $125.00 to $165.00 & Revell of Germany makes 2 at $45.00/$65.00.
so the market is there

More (useless) F-4 trivia:

--More than 643,000 fasteners are used to hold the Phantom together.

I don't think that many would be needed for a 1:18 F-4.

Phantom II production ended in 1979 after over 5,000 in 15 different models had been built -- more than 2,600 for the USAF, about 1,200 for the Navy and Marine Corps, and the rest for other nations, including to Israel, Iran, Greece, Spain, Turkey, South Korea, West Germany, Australia, Japan, and Great Britain.

Impressive. 8)

so much money to be made by first manufacture to step up to plate
5000+ paint schemes x 10000 built per scheme
50,000,000 planes, times $40. a pop thats a lot of zeros

The US Air Force purchased more than 2,600 F-4s and, as a result, a large portion of the Air Force's pilots, navigators and maintenance people spent a great deal of their careers around and in F-4s. Used extensively in the Vietnam War, later versions of the aircraft were still active in the US Air Force inventory well into the 1990s.

Talk about a built-in 'fan' base. And that would be just for an Air Force paint scheme alone. Throw in Navy, Marines and international usage, and.....wow. My head hurts thinking about the popularity of this jet.

digger
Officer Canidate

On a side note anyone notice how fast the 104 sells out every time they get some? No doubt in my mind that is the fastest selling 1:18 Jet, and it bodes well for our getting the F-4 out of 21st after the F-86.
.

I agree, digger, and I hope you are right about the skids being greased for 21st to do other jets. I could definitely handle a F-86 followed closely by an F-4.

Craig Breedlove and others used the mighty J79 F-4 jet engine to set land speed records from the mid sixties through the early nineties.

The F-4 flew every traditional military mission: air superiority, close air support, interception, air defense suppression, long-range strike, fleet defense, attack and reconnaissance.

...and therefore deserves to be honored in 1:18 scale. 8)
