i'm thinking of putting a Tiger engine in the back of one of my Panthers. Not sure if it's doable and what's involved in getting it out of the Tiger. Anyone done anything like this before?

I will look tonight...I think I still have a project Tiger that is all cut apart and if so will send you a transplant Maybach...will check "Panther fit" as I have one sitting on the bench waiting for some detail work.

Yoxford...thanks but i don't need an engine......i have plenty of Tigers i can use as donars. I was just wondering how much hassle it's going to be to get a Tiger engine out plus if it's possible to fit into a Panther. Just wanted to know what i was getting myself into before i waste a lot of time and energy.

I don't know how easy it is to take out or whether or not its a seperate piece. I want to say it is, but without a Tiger to reference at this moment, I can't really say...

In terms of fitting it into the Panther, it will not simply drop into place as the engine is too large for the hole in the rear deck on the 21c Panther. You will either have to cut the engine to fit or cut the Panther. The engine compartment on the 21c Panther is essentially a hole with sort of a "wall" of plastic around it that could be easily dremmeled out, I imagine. There is a seperate "floor" piece that I think is attached to the lower hull. That could either hold the engine or be removed.

Ok, I will try and fit the tiger engine into the Panther tonight...the panther is all apart and seems like a good project to try while I wait on some parts and Pickelhaube's skirts to arrive.

Ive done it, the engine is a top mold and the plastic is part of the hull so you remove the top of the tiger from the bottom, then very carefully use a very small cutter wheel and dremel it out, I did mine from the top, using a red hot brand new Z x-acto blade and slowly cut it from the top, this is best but be sure you use caution and an good plastic handle and only get the tip red hot not the whole blade or the knife will melt. then just slice off the box under the panther and attach the tigers box..

This thread is very cool and very depressing. I love seeing the engine out of the tank and then put into a panther. However I can't imagine having enough spares to just use them for parts. Much less having spares to begin with.

Sorry Big Mike, if it makes you feel any better the Tiger went to a better place!
(a zip lock bag in a tote in my garage with the remains of a few panthers and a bunch of Mk IV's)

The "bunch of mk IVs" is like pouring salt in the wound or a stake to the heart, especially considering the lengths I went to to attain one at a reasonable price.

to be fair they are mostly only turrets now, no complete ones
