Small Scale Military Headquarters

I was watching an RC show tonight on DIY and they were at the Top Gun competition in Fla. One guy there had an F-100 he did with a product called Flight Metal it is an adhesive backed thin aluminum sheets... his aircraft looked awsome so I looked it up on the web and It def. has the potential to cover 1:18 scale aircraft. I went ahead and bought the kit with the finishing tools and figured I would try it out on my P-47 or P-38. Here is the link if anyone is interested.

This stuff works really well on R/C airplanes as I have seen a couple of the guys at the flying field use it on their jets and someone used it on their warbird as well. It is a good product and is catching on. I have yet to use it, because all my birds are canvas machines!

By the way, if you want the canvas look. Use the covering called Solar Tex. It is wonderful, it is what I covered the P-6E in

What is the company of Solar Tex? Or what product did you use from them? Where would I be able to find this or their product? Would the canvas look work for a top to a Kubel or Jeep? Thanks

Solar Tex is either no longer made or it is marketed under a different brand name. The P-6E kit was actually my grandfathers that he had bought and bought all the supplies for but got around to making it. So I figured I would have at it and to save money, used most of the supplies he had gathered.

A good substitute for what I used would be Coverite made by a company called 21st Century. It is available from Tower Hobbies. They make covering that looks like painted fabric and it is pretty good. Your best bet would be to get white, and then paint it the color of the top.

Another possiblity would be simply to go to a craft store and get canvas, it is available. Then paint that and stick on your model as a roof. My gut feeling tells me that the covering might sag if you try to use it, your best bet might be some straight up canvas from the craft store.

Aircraft coverite works because it is streched around the frame, thinking on a canvas top. I'm not sure how well it would work, plus regular canvas is a lot cheaper at the craft store.
