21st Century Toys has announced that they are going to come out with a 1/32 scale Macchi 202 soon. Does anyone know if they will make one in 1/18 scale?

Nearly all of the 32x planes save the ME-262 and upcoming Zero and Macchi have 1:18 counterparts, so it is possible. However, 21c could easily go in the direction of their armor, where more than 20 interesting 1:32 pieces exist, with only six or so having been made in 1:18.

21st will probably see if the 202 sells in 1/32.. If it does, it will probably be reproduced in 1/18..

Well Aferg, I guess I am going to have to eat my words. I said a long time ago that I wanted one of these and you said you did too. I thought it had a snowball's chance in Hades of being produced. I told you if they did I would cough up the funds for one and ship it to you. Well, I am man enough to admit defeat, and kind of glad too. You will have to get me your info when these arrive so I can ship it out.

lol....well i believe that we were talking about a 1/18 scale one, not a 1/32 scale one. And a 1/18 version is far from a reality still. Your money is safe for now. ;)

As HW18 said they may decide whether to make a 1/18 version based on sales of the 1/32 one. So buy them up gang!

I was talking with one of the guys at the booth this weekend. One of the first things I asked was whether we'd see the Macchi in 1/18th. He said it was highly doubtful. I know I'd buy a few. Hopefully this is one of those under promise and over deliver things those marketing people do.

I don't think they will. It was mentioned before that you can "reduce" the modeling of a 1:18 plane to 1:32 pretty easily, but not vice-versa. The Macchi is a beautiful plane, but how many different paint schemes can you do? That's the problem, unfortunately.

well..

I agree it's a long-shot, but afterall if you could find 4-5 schemes for the 262 then you could find a few for almost anything. Yea, there are some 262s with variation, but almost across the board they appear the same - a hue of green in freckled format. :?
The way things are going we shouldn't rule anything out in 1:18! :D

well, there are a lot of beautiful schemes available for the macchi and according to Roy, the Macchi sells well as a model kit and they like to use that as a gauge. So i think if the 32x sells well than it's got a good chance to be made in 1/18 some day.....

That Macchi is a beauty! Unfortunately, I'm not into 1:32 scale. Please 21st C, produce this bird in 1:18!!! I'm standing in line :D :D :D

Assuming that if 1:32 sells well, then 1:18 will also sell well is foulty reasoning.

For a variety of reasons, ranging from the practical to the purely subjective, many 1:18 collectors do not collect 1:32 and viceversa.

Having said that, it's possible that the "surprise" aircraft will be issued in both scales in order to test the market acceptability with non traditional models, such as the Mc-202 and others.

In any event, I'm ready to buy whatever comes our way, so long as it's not a rehashed P-51 or FW-190.

I would be all about a Macchi either the 202 or the 200. Both are pretty cool in my opinion.

Man, if 21st makes a Macchi in 1/18 BEFORE a Me-262...or a Yak-9, LaGG-7, or a Shturmovik IL-2 or -3, I'd blow a gasket!!!

Macchi planes are good birds, deadly at the right hands, but they don't really have any significant impact in history, unlike some of the planes I've mentioned.

If 21st want to test the water with a "suprise" aircraft, they might as well be Russian, seeing many of their German planes have Eastern Front markings.

it's really not about historical significance, it's about what will sell well (and hence is recognizable or looks good), especially at WM and what has lots of repaint potential.

I want to see all those planes too but i would bet we never see any Russian aircraft, at least not from 21c. They've proven to be way conservative in their offerings, so far as subject matter goes. They've been on the brink for a long time and had to adopt a conservative approach; they couldn't afford any bombs and that attitude will stay with them for a long, long time.

I think if we ever see more 'peripheral' aircraft such as Russian Yaks etc. it will be from new companies (ie neither BBI nor 21c).

They won't. 262 first I'd say.

Aferg, what you said make sense. But I still have hope that BBI or 21st will make Soviet planes. :)

Remember not too long ago, when we were pleading for a Zero, 21st's comment is that Japanese planes really don't sell very well compared to German planes, and has limited repaint options, so they're not planning on making one. But then BBI listened to us and made one, and became an instant success, now 21st is slated to release one.

Hmm...I see a pattern here.

21st was content with their first Mustang, but when BBI released their gorgeous Mustang, 21st all of a sudden is making a new Mustang.

When 21st stopped making 1/18 armor for a while, BBI went into the fray with their excellent 105mm Sherman, 21st again, suddenly released their beautiful Panzer IV.

Aahhh...competition is a beautiful thing. BBI seems to be the boot to the rear of 21st whenever they are lagging in the 1/18 arena. Any hope of Mike from BBI announcing plans for any Soviet fighter? 8)

Digger, I remebered reading a previous interview with Mike (From 21C, or BBi, I'm not sure), where he states something about two surprise aircraft being announced before the end of the year.

Sorry I'm unable to find the exact quote here in the forum for your review.

Thanks Eddie - you might be thinking of Mike from bbi who has already come through with one major surprise in the Zero. I wouldn't expect any more new 1:18 AC before year end unless that bbi Hellcat was further along than we thought! :P :D Maybe we'll walk into tru one day and there it will be  Could happen the way they keep things under wraps.
I think the "2 new AC" from the 21st camp was in reference to the 1:32 Zero & Macchi, nada for us 1:18 guys unless you count the S2 104, S2-S4 109Gs, etc...
