That looks great!! Something out of the ordinary for 1:18. 8), fantastic price as well.
This would make a great diorama with Pickel's T-34.
Grunt, a little off topic but is the Kettenkrad final version finished yet?

These things were used allot in the battle of Kursk which will be starting any day now (69 years ago  ) Hard to believe that the 70th anniversary of Kursk is next year! I am going to get a few of these but I will get another on the trailer if he makes the trailer just to tow behind PH's 251 backdate mod!!

Here is a pic of what it looks like being towed.

I can't stop laughing. If you'd have told me a year ago there'd be a 1:18 Goliath in the realm of 1:18 military stuff as it flailed about in agony as a hobby, I'd have said you're simply a nutball.

Well done.

here's a neat little vidoe of reemactor with a Goliath in action:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2aWcZX_UI0

It's a Sd. Kfz 303. The german soldier operating it is actually representing a polish resistance fighter (note the red and white arm band). Goliath's were used to great effect during the '44 Warsaw uprising, blasting barricades and taking out large numbers of resistance fighters. The usual way the Poles had of dealing with them was for a volunteer to run up behind the advancing Goliath and try to cut the control wire...always under a hail of machine gun fire. I believe it was mostly 303's used in Warsaw.

Goliath's intended roll was to destroy road blocks, fortificatons and troop concentrations but they were also used sometimes in an anti tank role. The 302's were apparently used to good effect at Kursk, in clearing mine fields....production did not begin on the 303 until Jan '44, so they were not at Kursk. Maybe if this is a hit Grunt can make us an earlier version as well some day. :)

Both versions saw action on all fronts, right up to the end of the war and there were even some on the Normandy beaches. While a great conecpt, the slow speed, lack of suitable armor protection and vulnerable control wires meant that many never reached their target. When they did though they were devastating.

Thanks for the feedback. I see that people have already started ordering them. It really turned out well.

I made the control box using a cast of an MG42 ammo can and some small cuts of two different sizes of styrene tubes for the knobs.

No trailer for now as there are other projects ahead of it in line, but I think it makes sense especially as jnew pointed out, for being towed behind the 251, 250, Kettenkrad or even pulled by hand.

yep! I ordered two yesterday and cant wait to get them! so a controller comes with each one??

I always thought someone should make a Goliath in 1/6 scale, seems like a great size for one..

I am very happy that you made this Grunt! :D

no, i think you have to make your own controller...Grunt was explaining how he made his.

a 1/6 r/c Goliath would be ideal. Seems like something Dragon should already have made to me.

I think it would be a great seller especially on eBay with it assembled and an easy paint job....

The Goliath was produced in 1/6 scale by Cyber-Hobby. It was also produced in all metal, I cant recall the name of the company.

Neither of them R/C.

If you get the chance, they have a Goliath on display in Ft. Bragg, Airborne Museum.

By the way I was just checking out the Battleground website, nice products...I'll be placing an order soon.

In a discussion with Aferg it sounds like the original Goliath 303a model may have been underscale. I've posted a new version that is scaled up about 35%. Because the cost went up on the larger one, I left both versions in the store.

Looks good G1 and still a great price IMO. What is the difference between white strong flexible and white strong flexible polished?

Also, how thick is the mat'l? As i said earlier, i might try to cut the rear door open to have the wire spool exposed but before i do, i'd like to judge how much space will be in there.

The material is about 1mm thick so there should be plenty of room inside.

WSF has a slightly textured feel compared to ABS. WSF polished comes out super smooth like ABS because they toss the part in a tumbler full of plastic BB's and roll it around to create a very fine surface.

hm.....so do you usually go with polished or unpolished? I can see the paint not adhering as well to polished.

Great point on the paint. With primer it shouldn't be an issue. The only part that I've done polished so far was the idler wheels for the Panzer IV but I have yet to paint a set. I know some others here have them and might have painted them up.

In general, if a model has small parts like an antennae or bracket, that part may get rubbed off in the process, but something like the idler wheel is very strong and works perfectly.
