New Models Suggestion

Ok, here are my suggestions for upcoming models from BBi or C21 or whomever wishes to produce them, as long as they do a great job and they're 1:18 scale first.

For comparison purposes, the P-38 has a wingspan of 52 feet (52'), which translates to approx. 35 inches (35") in our models. I will list the airplanes wingspan in feet.

Germany:Henschel Hs.129 B-2/ Ground attack/ 47'
Bf-110C/ Fighter/53'
Dornier Do-17Z/ bomber/ 59'

Italy:
Fiat G-55/ Fighter/ 39'
Breda Ba-65/ fighter/bomber/ 40'
Macchi MC200/fighter/35'
Reggiane Re-2002/ attack/36'

Finland:VL Myrsky II/ fighter/ 36'

USA:Douglas SBD-5/ bomber/ 42'
Vultee A-35/ Dive bomber/ 37'
Northrop A-17A/ attack/ 48'
Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat/ fighter/ 43'

Japan:Mitsubichi Ki-51/ attack airplane/ 40'
Nakahima Ki-27b/ Fighter/ 37'
Nakahima Ki-43-II/ fighter/36'
Nakahima B5N2/ torpedo bomber/ Commander Mitsuo Fuchida's personal aircraft/ 51'
Kawasaki Ki-48IIb/ Twin bomber/ 57'
Yokosuka D4Y2/ bomber/ Imperial Navy Air force/ 38'

Poland:
PZL-P-37/ twin/attack/ 59'

Netherlands:Fokker T. VIII-W/ twin float plane/ 59'

France:Arsenal VG-33/ fighter/ 36'
Bloch MB-152/ Fighter/ 35'
Latecore 298/ twin float plane/ bomber/ 51'
Potez 631/ twin night fighter/ 53'

Great Britain:Bristol Beaufighter/ twin fighter/ 58'
Bristol Beaufort Mk.I/ twin torpedo bomber/ 58'
Hawker Hurricane Mk.I/ fighter/ 40'
Hawker tempest Mk.V/ fighter/ bomber/ 41'
Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB/ fighter/ 32'
Fairey Battle Mk.I/ bomber/ 54'
Fairey Swordfish/ biplane/ torpedo bomber/ WWII/ 46'/ gorgeous
De Havilland Mosquito Mk. IV/ bomber/ 54'/ beautiful

USSR:Mikoyan Gurevich Mig-3/ fighter/ 34'
Ilyushin II-2M3/ attack/ 44'
Sukhoi Su-2/ bomber/ 47'
Petzyakov Pe-2/ twin bomber/ 57'
Lavochkin LaGG-3/ fighter/ 32'
Yakovlev Yak-9/ fighter/ 33'

I believe all these airplanes are doable and beautiful, therefore I see no problem with them selling well. In my Complete Book of WW-II Combat Aircraft (Angelucci/Matricardi/ Pinto/ 1988 Ervin/ Rome), there are color plates of all the above mentioned aircraft. Most of them have a really beautiful paint job, so I do see potential for these models to be sold to the general public as well, if only because they're very beautiful and attractive airplanes to look at. As for us, well...need I say more?

Best Regards,
Eddie

For all these planes, we have the same response.

Great, and even vehicle guys like me would be interested in some of your list (Typhoon, Mosquito, Bf-110) but only this board will buy those planes.

The question is: Will the general toy buying public recognize these planes and pay some serious money (over $40) for a toy that Junior will probably break in a half hour.

These are toys and not models. If 21C ever gets to the point of producing their "Legends" line and produce these planes, that are recognized by us airplane fanatics, then that is the only way these planes will be produced.

I can say the same for the different models of the Sherman, M-19 or M-42 Duster, Ontos, M-26, bridge laying tanks, tank retrievers, cargo trucks of all kinds and sizes. We would love to see them produced and we feel they would "fly off the shelves", but we really know that's not going to happen.

That's quite a list. Let's hope that at least several of them become a reality. :D

Eddie372: That's quite an impressive wish-list you have, and I would love to see many of those birds too. As other board members (and BBI rep Mike Murphy) have discussed, however, market realities dictate few if any of those planes will ever see the light of day in 1:18.
However, don't depair! Many of those planes are or will be made in 1:72 scale. IXO co. is coming out with a bunch of "rare birds", and Corgi is coming out with a Gloster Gladiator and Fairey Swordfish in 1:72. Look at the 1:32-and- Smaller side of this forum, and visit The Model Hangar
(www.modelhangar.com) for more info. :)

I'm sure we will see at least a couple on that list done in the future. Between bbi and 21st, we will see some real surprises in the future. Who here expected the Zero??

We all expected the Zero--we just didn't count on their reluctance about producing one. Now, it will be interesting to see what is forthcomming.

yes it's after the standard bread and butter planes are all produced that it will get interesting...

What will we see.....or will we see anything at all?...

I think it is a very good list of candidates for future models by 21C, BBI, or Admiral.

I'll cast my vote for one in particular:

DAUNTLESS, DAUNTLESS, DAUNTLESS!!!

Recommend the SBD-3 version (Coral Sea, Midway, Guadalcanal)

I would like to see the DUKW and the T-34. We could use some help against all of those Panzers and Tigers we already have. Maybe an IL2 could help.

My kind of guy. We have an uphill battle my friend....these AC fanatics have us outnumbered and out-flanked....

I'd say after the Avenger will be the XD 262 and then the F-86 & MiG combo. I just think you don't hear much about what's coming because it doesn't seem to pay to speculate or show us protos. BBI shows and says nothing - plus their website is a joke - and it seems to work fine for them. I'm afraid 21st might take a similar approach and keep things closer to the vest going forward beause that seems to be a better way to win fan support - secrecy.

So what sells guys? Recognition, beauty, size, or a combination of all?
Speaking of beauty. I was looking at pictures of the Lockheed PV-2 "Harpoon" and oh man! What a beauty of an airplane, especially in blue Navy colors.

For those of you with the "Aircraft of the World" collection, take a look at the card in Group-11, #31 and see what I mean.

This airplane is beautiful, perfectly doable, and a great addition to our Pacific Theater arsenal.

Haven't someone said that..."beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder?

How about 1:18 support personnel and equipment for our aircraft: ground crew, navy deck crew, ordnance dollies, a/c tractors, 'follow me' jeeps, alternate ordnance (depth charges or homing torpedos)...

IMHO would also be attractive to the age-correct kids  to play with in addition to us grown-up 'kids' :D

I would like to add a wildcat or hellcat to the mix of WWII fighters.

Modern- I would say A-10 or F-4 Phantom

You have to dream bigger - the 21C Legends line is already going to feature much of what you mention. :P It should be very cool... 8)

I'd love to see an F-4 Phantom now having seen two different ones fly the past two weeks. Also, after seeing them in person in 1:18 scale (via Lockheed Booth) I think the F-117 and F-22 Raptor would look awesome in 1:18. A-10 would be cool as well.

WW2 wise... SBD Dauntless, B-25 Mitchell, Hurricane, Japanese Val.

My first choice is an A-10, but don't foget the cool old A-7 Corsair.

How bout F-15/ Su-27 combination for modern fighter combo,
F-4 phantom/ Mig 17 or 21 for vietnam era,
F-86/ Mig 15 korea and last but certainly not least
a lancaster bomber with hurricane escort for that english flavored WWII

Dream Bigger...

[21st is making that combo already]

And you'll only have to wait two years for them!

I wouldn't bet on it taking 2 years... I have it on pretty good authority that they are moving along quite nicely!

Ah, good! (Well, bad for my wallet.) My 1:18 aircraft collection will grow by a couple more planes next year.
