Indiana Jones figures could be customized I suppose... Some of the 3.75" Harry Potter as well I imagine.

I made these English girls from the Pirates of the Caribbean - Elizabeth Swann figure. I just painted them with tamiya acrylics in various period colours.

The Dr. Henry Jones figure from the Indiana Jones line is probably one of the best "generic" civilian figures. With that case and umbrella, he makes a good refugee as well.

hm...some intersting ideas so far.

i found these:

http://tgftoys.com/Papo-Gardener-Farmer ... egoryId=-1

the way they are dressed they could pass for wwii era warehouse or dock workers, which is the look i've decided i'm after. I want something to go with my 'tip and run' fw-190, which i'm making from an r/c fw-190 that just came out.

i remember from when i was a kid, my dad telling me stories about these raids and i've always wanted to do a dio of some type.

Jay I remember that dio from the contest, it was awesome.. Still is actually!

Aferg, I have some of those farmers and they work well. Here is a Operation Market Garden shelf mini-dio I did a few weeks ago.

There are some figures of the Harry Potter brand, one very well dressed, old fashionned old man, rather tall (more like 4"), sorry I don't know his name, and the Harry Potters friends in their college uniform are not bad. In one Indiana Jones movie, you can find a small boy with a cap, also old fashioned dressed. If you don't see what I mean, I can try to make a pic (but have first to kindly ask my daughter).

actually, the first thing i thought of was the Harry Potter kids in their school uniforms....but i didn't really want to have my fw-190 strafing school children (even though it happened), so i decided on warehouse/dock workers instead. Not sure who the old guy you are talking about is, unless it's Snape in his black robes? There's Dumbeldore, but he looks like a wizard (cause he is).

Really there's a lot of Indiana Jones possibilities... Indy with RPG, one of the cheapest figures, is one of the most generic figures in the scale at this point. TLC Indy has a necktie on which is unique and pretty good for the period though not good for dockworkers.

Feel like shelling out a lot, you could get Toht or the Cobra COmmander he's based on. :) Vintage Toht is probably cheaper, sadly.

There are some Fisher Price figures in the scale that could probably work, and be very basic, but under articulated, and needing a paintjob and possibly head swapping to give a better looking modern toy sculpt to the face.

You could also try the various accessory figures that go with 1:18th die cast cars. Googling "1:18 gas station figures" bought a few up for starters....

Well, personnaly I prefer articulated figures. Here are some from the Harry Potter movies and the 2 below left are from Indiana Jones. I've posted a new topic for figures that have a more modern look.

Short Round and Elsa Schneider.

But wouldn't any American figure work? Just black-wash the teeth.
(just kidding to our British brothers)
