$50 for a die cast Jeep?

My head hurts.

I look at my Gates Jeep we goit for $5 and say... WOW.

Well, considering the price the 21c Jeeps can go for now, $50 isn't so bad...

Well, I remember not too long ago we were (or at least I was) going gaga over the new jeep from AutoArt. $250 for that one. $50 doesn't seem too bad. The detail on this one looks pretty good, too.

At least another choice for Willy jeep. Not too bad!!

Cool, but why doesn't it have the dang 30 cal?!?

As a standard during WW2, only one Jeep in every five had a mounted MG.

Both our post war Army Jeep and the WWII Marine one on loan to the Museum have the .30 mounted. It's not that complex and could probably be an easy scratch-build. I'll have to study ours a little more and take some measurements. Might add one to my Gates Jeep.

The Danbury JEEP looks better and is 1/16 too. In a world where the 1/18 items are fading fast and 1/16 is plentiful.

I would have to agree on the growth of 1/16, I'm sure its just a matter of time before HL or Mato puts out a RC jeep in that scale, but I guess what I was thinking, its hard to find a affordable 1/18 scale jeep anymore.


Seems most of the die-cast manufacturers are set up for 1/18, which I don't know why, makes you wonder why the RC manufacturers went 1/16, was it most likely that Tamiya was building in 1/16 for quite awhile?

Its funny that the scales are so close, but yet so far away, go figure

1/16 jeeps are useless for 1/18 figures...they look like little children riding them.

yes the 1/16 vs 1/18 is an annoying problem. Just like the 1/32 vs 1/35. Long long ago, there was only a tiny bit of 1/16 and no 1/18 at all (except for 3 3/4 inch action figures which were 1/18 by accident more than design). Then Bburago started making some 1/18 diecast cars....not sure why they chose 1/18 scale other than it works out to 1 inch is a foot and half, as opposed to 1/16 which is an awkward one inch equals one foot 4 inches.

Really, in the world of toys and collectibles, 1/18 is far more established; there are 1/18 cars, 3 3/4 inch action figures and vehicles, 1/18 motorcyles etc. In 1/16 there are only a minute number of cars, tractors and now, a surrgence of tanks. The two scales sound provocatively close, but are in reality, far apart.

Having a 1/16 RC Jeep would indeed be an accomplishment. Finding a place for the motor and the battery in the engine compartment might be a killer for a RC Jeep.

I agree, but those RC guys are pretty amazing on what they can do, when ever I go over to the RC Tank site I'm amazed at what some guys are building

Size and room isn't the problem, it's making it affordable and what platform to use is.

What's really weird about the whole scale issue is why when they started out with 1/15th scale RC tanks did they go with 1/16th?

Look at micro RC and see if you can fit its components into a 1:18 jeep. They make tiny RC cars... it's just a question if what powers them can power something a bit larger.
