Schleich 1:18 (?) Technical - at last?

Post by grunt1 » Mon Apr 02, 2012 8:37 pm

I don't know why I'm obsessed with finding a technical in this scale, but.. perhaps this is worthy?

Item size in cm (L × W × H): 39,0 × 16,5 × 17,3 (seems big, perhaps the box size?)

hm....schleich stuff is usually about 1/20. Style of the truck doesn't really match the style of the technicals in the pics. Surely there must be a 1/18 pick up diecast that would fit the bill?

how bout these:

Sadly there isn't, or at least not that I've found. A 80's or 90's Toyota in 1:18 diecast would seem a no brainer, but apparently not or not worth the licensing fees or something.

I've been looking for a long time for a Toyota pick-up for exactly the same purpose: mounting a machine gun and either some north african regular or revolutionnary soldiers, or terrorists. The 1:18 market is full of Ford, Chevrolet, Jeep and so on, typically seen on american (off-)roads. Nothing to do with all japanese and corean vehicles broadly exported in Africa, South-west Asia... where collectors are sparse. So, no Toyota Hi-Ace, so I gave up. Same for a small to medium size truck with no aerodynamic line, silver rims and smoked dark windows that I would have loved for making an humanitarian convoy for Somalia. Only a big (Schuco) Mercedes for more than 300$. I bought the Schleich (safari) truck. It is now dismantled, waiting for many hours of work to be able to receive 1:18 figures. In fact, seats are too small and cabin height too low, the rear wheels are not double for some heavy load on its deck... So, be carefull with this new (very toyish looking) technical vehicle, I'm 95% sure it will be too small for 1:18.

... But once upon a time, I modified this Jeep for an afghanistan like diorama. I don't now if, after the British leaved, the Russian, the Mudjahidin and now the Taliban, there are still some old english vehicles there. (Note that one of these terrorists has a VZ-61 Skorpion... Its just sad that during the hot day the shot was taken, the RPG softened and curved down)
