COOL WAY TO MAKE PILLBOXES OR ATLANTIC WALL DIORAMAS!

I tried an experiment today.I glued several pieces of styrofoam to look like a pillbox. Then I coated the thing with Plasticote fleckstone(granite)
and it looks just like concrete!Put a few shell holes or tear off a corner and
it looks even better. This is a really cheap way to make bunkers.Be carefull
to spray light coats as heavy coats can bubble up.

Yep, I tried this a couple months ago. I have the picture in black and white at the moment, but I'll post a colored pic later.

The last is kinda hard to tell and I think I need to add another layer of gray.

You pics aren't showing up.
Can you post them direct to the board?

I've used Styrofoam for a few dio projects and coated it with Spackle and the sanded to the finish wanted. This does two things, first... gives a surface that can be carved or sanded to give the texture you want and...
second...if you use spray paint you'll have a barrier that won't let the paint eat the styro.

Use the blue Styrofoam as sold in hardware stores (like Lowes) used for housing materials. It well not melt when any paint is applied and cuts much easier than conventional styro.

Some of you might remember some of my fathers work from a while back. He went by macvsog on the board. I think it applies to this discussion as he used foam core and title grout, then painted it in washes. I uploaded some of his old photos for you.

I tried my hand at something similar for a battlefield accessory for our battles. I just never finished it like I wanted it to look like.

Image

I still have it and might finish it one day. :( It's made of that blue styro and speckled paint.

EDIT: After looking at that photo album mine is not worthy at all! :D
