F-104 landing gear fix ?

Hey guys,
I've searched all the old posts here about 104 gear problems and found one from 2010 started by Jay, his gear was broken in a similar way. My 104 main gear is snapped just above the rotating pivot point/mainwheel axle, on the small rectangular plastic piece that attaches to the main long strut.
It's such a small area that I know glue wouldn't hold it considering all the plane's weight would be bearing on it, but there doesn't seem to be enough room to drill a hole in both pieces and use a brass rod support.
Has anyone successfully fixed a break in this spot, or is my 104 now to be an inflight display only?
thanks
