Promoting SSHQ?

Well, had an idea! What we photoshopped up a advertisement for SSHQ? I don't know what to say, but something that would encourage someone to join SSHQ.
All the forum members could maybe print off and put in packages being sold on ebay? It would be something small, maybe 2"x3" or something like that? You could print off a whole sheet of them to cut out.
Anyone have any ideas?

This is actually a pretty good idea -- although I'd probably call it "promotion" or "promoting" rather than "advertising." I can think of two kinds of web sites where promoting this forum would make sense: online vendors of 1/18 stuff and other model fora.

It's been a while since I've been involved in any kind of online promotion, but I can say it's a good deal of work. There are a number of issues that would have to be addressed:

** Who's in charge here? We've got pretty loose and open "government" of the forum itself -- which works really well for the kinds of internal issues a special-interest forum like this has. But dealing with the kinds of questions that come up with a promotion campaign is another issue. For instance, my understanding is that the forum itself is hosted as a pure favor by a single individual. The kinds of issues that can come up with a cross-website promotion campaign can require the host to deal with questions from the folks receiving requests to host promotional links.

** Who decides on the graphical content of the promotional banner or spot link?

** Who maintains the campaign, i.e. when the promotional targets need to change their site structure, who deals with getting the promotional spots re-placed, etc.?

... sorry, but it's the lawyer in me . . .

This site, its graphics and content belong to P-51. AKA Brit Dietz.

I agree with toyktdlgh - the site and all outreach/advertising belongs and is the responsibility of P-51. However he want's to do it is the way to go.

A while back, we used to have links on several vendor's websites (BadCat toys, Foxholetoys, etc) but after some gaffes, whiny board members, and PO'ed retailers, I think a lot of those have been removed...

Way back in the day, on the old GPXD forum, I know that site had vendor links and was influential enough to 21c for its customer service dept to recommend new members.

I've thought this same thing. I sell allot of stuff on Ebay and often wondered if I could put a little tag in the box about this site. I figured it could be a way of getting the word out about this great site. There is allot of talented people out there that could add their knowledge to the site and I am sometimes intimidated by the level of knowledge that board members have. Which explains why I seldom post. I like a qoute from old Abe "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt"

I never would of attempted casting a mold if it was not for reading Pickles posts. This site has allot to offer, so I guess it would be up to the big guy to allow us to promote the site.

Something simple. No graphics just the site name and web link.

Hey guys, by all means if you want to put promotional things out there, be my guest! Unfortunately, I don't have the time to do make a bunch of graphics, but you guys are again welcome to. As long as it keeps with the 'green/orange/yellow/grey' theme (that's a tribute to the original GPXD boards).

Keep in mind this is being host on my Warbird Photos Aviation photography site, so people will always see warbird-photos.com/gpxd as the link.

Flyboy I don’t know what you have in mind but you can use something like this as a template. It’s just an idea to build on.

Flyboy well said mind if I use that in my auctions?

Toy, anyway to get that in business card size? I have a couple thousand of the perforated business cards I could prin them on. Save the time of cutting.

They both look Great nice job!!

Sure, what size are your cards? I'm going to make one on a white back ground to save ink. I tend to run out too fast.
