New 21C Abrams RC is reported out in Dallas.

Bad news is, it is 1/9 scale

No pics, no info except price of $199.99.

I can confirm that it is now out. I had a chance to talk with Roy Sutherland today about the Abrams as a matter of fact. I still haven't seen one in person yet but I am told that it is considerably larger than the Stuart. I can't wait to see one in action!

Hey, I think the Ebay scalpers are slacking, I haven't seen one pop out yet. Can't wait to get one of these monsters....if it's done right.

I saw one today at Walmart in Blue Springs Mo., east of KC. It is sand colored with no additional colors ie the suspension wheels don't have the rubber painted black. It is in a box a little longer then the 1/6 Humvee. It is $199. What I could see in the box looks great.

Why would 21st start a 1/9th line?

I've got 1/6th, 1/18th and 1/32nd going on

1/9th I'm not going there...................... uh, anyone take one of these Abrams out for a spin ?

so, 1/9????
i know it is big, but can it be used with any of our scales and still look good?

is it rugged?
will it go thru grass and soil better that the stuart?

let me know.....i may get it....hahahahha!

1/6 would have been better unless this tank can pass as 1/6....who knows...

I had mentioned this before...I don't think they are starting a 1/9 line, but rather just being honest about the scale, and having the piece actually be that scale. Again, who thinks the 1/6 M2 was really 1/6?

So, rather than say 1/6 M1 (which would be well over 5 ft. long), they say 1/9 which is just over 3 ft. and just right for what they want in terms of size, packaging, price point, etc.....

I searched ebay for "1/9 abrams" and the same guy selling it is also selling one parted out. He shows the hull in one auction and the wheels in the other. My best assumption is that it will be as good as the 1/6 stuart. the wheels though are not individually independent but are set up as a dual boggie like the stuart. See the guy's other auctions. Cosmetically it will look good but it won't be mechanically correct. I can see somebody already working on an upgrade.

We have the Abrams in San Antonio now.
It is longer than the Stuart and is still huge even at 1/9th scale. The paint and detail looked pretty good through the package.

Anywhooo, I can't wait for these to show up. I know of a few stray cats with big 'ol targets on their butts.

Yuck, the barrel's way too short. Not to mention some dimensional, detail problems (did you see those sprockets?). After 21st produced the beautiful Panzer IV, why would they make crap like this? This is like BBI's A-10 all over again!

I hope it's just because of the pictures, but I was planning on buying this on-line or off e-bay. Not anymore.

It's not 1/18 like the Panzer - and I don't think extreme detail is the priority as much as playability. It would take a car battery to run a 1/6th version, and if it were detailed like Tamiya it would be $400. So, it's 1/9th and a little off.

I got no place for it, but I can see how it's a badass toy even if you're not a collector.

I guess you're right. This is probably aimed at kids. What irks me is 21st can do a realistic toy/model, but they chose the cheap way out. The Stuart's pretty good, with very little modification, it can equal many 1/35 Stuart models out there.

Why is this? It seems that if the subject is the Abrams, manufacturers always cheaps out. First BBI, now 21st.

I guess my quest for a large scale Abrams (that doesn't require me to get a loan from a bank!) still goes on. Hell, if 21st did this Abrams right, I wouldn't have minded forking over Tamiya prices for it.

Oh well, back to modifying my Franklin Mint Abrams.

*Note to self* Stop looking at 21st's catalog and think that those pics are the one they are actually going to sell!

I hear you. I would love if 21st Century did an M1 in 1:18 as I was so let-down by the bbi version but with the way things are looking for Armor, especially modern & US, I'm not getting too hopeful.

I can think of two good reasons for them to do this in 1:9:

1. The can probably use the same motor for the 1:9 Abrams as they did for the 1:6-ish Stuart. Much cheaper to make a new shell than a new motor, and a real 1:6 one, or even one close, would be too expensive.

2. 1:9 scale means 1:9 figures would be 8 inches tall, right? Aren't the new GI Joe Sigma Six figures 8 inches tall? Perhaps the idea is, in part, to offer something that will go with a line that may be popular.

I saw 4 in Northern VA. Didn't buy one. It was just too big, and frankly, I thought the quality looked inferior to the M5 (of which I have two!).

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but anybody thinking about laying out the serious money this 1/9 Abrams costs might think again.

One of the 1/6 boards has a horror story with pictures of what happened the first time a guy took this tank outside.

Remote doesn't work well, parts on the tank snapped off or just broke. The drive wheels are as thick as the top of a dixie cup.

21C needs some work on this baby or they are going to loose alot of serious fans.

I'll hold back to see what develops. For the sake of 21C, I really hope this story is a rarity and not the norm.

A follow up noted that 5 guys now report the Abrams breaking within minutes of being used, all in the same place.

It's a shame.

If you're interested in 1/6, that's a great site, informative, even nice guys.....of course, not as good a crew as we have in this board but then that's a given or I wouldn't be here.
