New Way of Mounting BBI Jets

After picking up the Amazon-special F18 and Katrina F16, I needed to free up some shelf space in my room. So, with the wife's permission, I mounted one of those brackets you can buy to hold bikes off the floor in garages and put my Blue Angel F18 on display in my living room. They work great, and hold the airplane so it looks like its banking. The wife was so impressed, she's said she would consider more of my planes invading the "airspace". Another nice feature is you can take them down without having fishing line all over the model.

I mounted two planes on my model room wall with a pair of those hooks for each plane. Kind of a trial thing to see if I liked it. They work good but the bright red??? I was thinking of painting or re-dipping them black.

I used a long hook at the nose and a short hook at the tail. The planes have their gear down/against the wall. The planes at mounted at about a 45 degree angle pointing at the floor. I wanted to mount my F/A-18 above the TV in the living room the same way. But that’s prime real estate for more shelves for more armor. (see my other post )

Count your blessings that your family actually even ALLOWs you to display your XD in the house. The Vulture's nest is devoid of plastic. I need to schlep outside to the shed (which thankfully is insulated, has electical, etc.) to enjoy the fruits of my hobby.

I can only hang 4 planes from the ceiling - now - with the rest displayed on a table or stored in the closet or cupboard, or in the attic. A shed would be quite nice...

While taking the pictures, figured I would see how it looks with a smaller WWII plane - doesn't work. Also, looking at the pictures, it probably would look better if I painted it to somewhat match the wall color.

And Vulture, I'm jealous about the shed. Lesson for everyone - always buy a house with one more bay on the garage than you think you need, and if you build a shed - make it double the size you think you need. I screwed up on both of those.

I like the mounts, they look great for the jets. I agree that they may be too large for the WW2 a/c. I have 2 F-18s that I'll give it a try on.

Should work with the 21C Starfighter, also. I may now order a Starfighter (If my wife asks, it is YOUR fault, MM )

Anyways, it is a good mounting technique and thanks for sharing!

All of my WW2 a/c are hung on the wall by the tail gear. I use one of the plastic-coated wires which are used in the packaging and wrap it around the tailwheel and make a small loop. Then the a/c is hung on a picture hook. On the F-18's, I ran a wire through two of the little holes near the rear of the fuselage to make a hook. But they both will now have the bike mount instead. That looks pretty neat with the F-18!! All you need to do is paint the bracket white to match the wall, leaving the hook part alone. You got me thinking about that!! Thanks for the pictures.....

Brackets look good and Thruds mounting looks good too. Guess Im in the lucky club as I have a finished basement and have my planes hanging there.
