Good hobby air compressor?

Post by flyboy_fx » Sun Oct 16, 2011 5:35 pm

I have been using the paasche D500 but it seams to have just crapped out on me. :(

Anyone know of any good air compressors? Needing something that is oil-less and that can deliver almost 30-40 PSI.

I bought a 1HP 3 gal sears compressor. Use it with my Iwata HPC plus airbrush and it works great. I have gone as low as 5-10 psi and for normal jobs 25-30 psi is no problem. I like it as I can also do minor work on cars and even used it to install valve seals on my car. A great buy and I have more than got my moneys worth. Great to air up tires also from my car tires to my sons bicycle tires to my dirt bike tires.

I might look around and go for a general purpose compressor.

I bough an Iwata smartjet Compressor and I love it:

Don't be fooled by the price, I bought mine on ebay brand new for $100, so you can get them much cheaper than retail if you are diligent in searching ebay.

If you're looking for something inexpensive and quick, check out Harbor Freight. Got mine there, and it works AOK.

PanzerArm mentioned Iwata. It is the best. In my (former) line of work, painting cars nothing performs better, is put together as well and as reliable. I still have my Iwata clear coat guns (full size) Worked with custom painters who used the airbrush and compressor on a regular basis, and I used them for micro touch-ups. They have a patented spray pattern on all their guns and airbrushes that can't be matched, and proven reliability with their compressors.

You might pay more, but over the long term you won't.

Hey, I have a D500 that I never use anymore, you can have it if you pay the shipping.
