Re: 1/18 Ho-229 Prototype Input Needed !!!
No way close to being done but I figured that I should show something.
Here is a full days worth of work as far as detailing goes.
I probably have another days work to refine and finish the top.
Then the bottom and wing panels.
It is kind of hard to see the details but here you go.

Fantastic! but ...
the idea that that is going to turn into something that can be reproduced is pure magic to me. Given the way I work with my 3D printing, the idea that all your work is contained in that physical object scares me to death. When I mess something up, I just throw it away and go back to the previous saved version of the file ...

We all appreciate WWII airplanes, but this airplane is also going to appeal the modern aircraft collectors.I am sure that all the work of making the Horten will payoff in the end.

Re: 1/18 Ho-229 Prototype Input Needed Progress Pics 8-22
I spent another day on the top and almost have it done.
I need to put a couple of teardrop things on next to the rear of the nacelles.
I need to work on the real job tomorrow if I get the chance I will post more pics.
My guess is that I need about 8 full days to complete then it is mold making time.
But the trick is getting those 8 days or 64 hours to work on it.

Looking great so far, PH.
If the end product is done as well, this is going to be a fantastic 1/18 model.
Just curious. How many of these would you be able to make? If the demand was there. 100, 500?
Could be a new manufacturer in 1/18. PH Enterprises has a nice ring to it.

Re: 1/18 Ho-229 Prototype Semi Progress 8-24
I think that I about have the top done.
I do need to add 3 filler caps to the leading edge area. I saw them after I put the last coat of primer on the main body.
They will be put on. I also got started on the bottom laying panel lines. I probably have another full day of tweaking and the bottom will be done.
I still need to finish some of the detail in the wheel areas but at least something is getting done.

Well maybe not perfect.
The panel lines are kind of easy. I lay them out with pencil.
Then I use the plastic tape that comes in those clicking label makers. The ones that push the letters/numbers into the tape and come out as white lettering.
I lay that on my lines. Then I use a scribe it looks like a dental pick .
Then I go back with a thin file that looks kind of like a feather that has been split into length wise.
The trick is hold even pressure AND COUNT THE LINES INSCRIBED.
The same goes for the rivets. Try to hold the same amount of pressure and count the revolutions with the drill bit. I use a drill bit in a pin vise.
Going slow and methodical is the name of the game.

Well, that proves it's the man and not the tool -- I use exactly the same tool set for scribing, and my results aren't nearly so good.pickelhaube wrote:flyboy_fx wrote:Where can we get a file like that?

PH is pulling your guy's chains, I have seen him do it before and he doesn't use anything like that. First he burns some incense and sage around the model, then he sings a native American type song while beating a small drum with his eye's closed, then he takes the burnt incense and sage and rubs it in his hands and then blows it up into the air, once this is done the panel lines are formed

Great results can also be had from the Bare Metal Foil co scribing tool.
It's very similar except the head is reinforced. I have had three in my time, but since they reinforced the head, the design is perfect and i can't imagine ever needing to replace this one.
I have used mine on many model projects(But i don't want to derail this thread with my pics).
