Re: 1/18 Ho-229 PreOrder Till Oct 31 ! RTV is Here! Paymen

Cool pic and can't wait for the Horten! Any idea of a timeframe? I decided to shelve the new BBI Blackhawk in favor of this, but that was a no-brainer after seeing Pikelhaube's pictures :P

I've got a book on Axis and Allied flying wing projects which has some interesting pictures of the Horten aircraft that I'll have to scan and post. Some of which I don't think have been posted on here yet.

I'm looking forward to this 229, I've been wanting to build one in this scale for years but never found enough reference material. There aren't as many photos of the Horten as I'd like to see. Mathew on the other hand has found everything he need to make this aircraft........A true Artist!
Tman if you could post some of the pics that would be great, by the way whats the title of the book?

I got a couple of days to work on the Horten.

The kit will have about 60 pieces. 30 of which is the count of parts for the landing gear. I hope for this to be an easy build for you guys :D

I have made the moulds for the flaps and ailerons.

The landing gear parts are ready to mould. All 30 of them

The main wings are ready to mould !!!

So progress is being made.

One way or the other should guys should have your Hortens for Christmas !!!

I need a show of hands for the guys who want the end caps for the main wing section . I only want to make them for guys who want them.

I will never display it without the wings so I do NOT need the wing caps.

Pickelhaube, so we will have the option of being able to remove the wings on the model? And will this be the case for the pre-assembled versions as well (such as the one I've ordered)?

If so, I'd love to have the end caps included with mine.

It would make a good way to display the model in different configurations as well as potentially store it...

Many thanks :D

I worked on some moulds today and I got an idea.

As my mother used to tell me. Treat it kindly it is in a strange place.

If I WERE to do the night fighter, it could be an easy transformation.

The biggest hurdle would be the canopy. Primarily the front shield . It slopes backwards. If I made it strait up and down I could make the canopy swing up and open . Like the Me-109.

I could cut out more glass area as well and put in a rear seat.

I could copy the Me-262 antenna array for the nose .

Instant night fighter more or less.

How does that sound guys ?

WOW! Hmm...I "think" I like this BUT...does it add time to the build? Still done/painted and shipped by 12/24?

I'd like the endcaps, also, Matthew.

Depending on how it looks, I might be interested in the night fighter variant. Not as a replacement for the single-seater, though: would still prefer it as you have it now, if I have to choose one or the other.

Thanks!

P.S. I still owe you money for shipping; I don't know how much to send.
Was it for this my life I sought? Maybe so, and maybe not...

Pickel, The Me-109 or Me-262 canopy type would be the logical choise if you were to offer a night fighter option. I seem to remember a discussion about something like this in one of these many posts on your 229.
The idea sounds great, but more work for you. :?
I think Jon will like the idea too. :)

Hey Guys,

I am thinking of the average shipping will be about $12 in the continental USA.

As far as the night fighter goes it will be AFTER the production kits / full builds are shipped.

IF THERE IS INTEREST :D

Matthew, would this be an after market type kit or are you talking an entire new kit / model?
I guess I'm asking could I get a second seat and night-fighter canopy and do the custom myself?

I am thinking an after market deal IF THERE IS INTEREST.

The only change being the cockpit area and antenna array.

It took me about 2-3 days to make the glass and frame canopy. It just may take me that long for the new one.

So if there is only 2-3 guys who are interested in it the option may not happen.

But for you guys who can you could probably make the conversion yourself.

I will try to use the same canopy and frame but it will have to me heavily modified as well as the front wind shield. The frame of the shield that meets the sliding canopy will have to be made perpendicular to the horizontal sliding rail so it can swing opened and closed.

I'd be interested and if it doesn't happen, I'll just make my second 229 a single seat night-fighter.

If you go for it, I'd copy the style of 21st's Me-262 night-fighter canopy.......that seems to be the way to go.Image
