Just ordered one of these, was wondering if anyone had one and if they repainted it or left it stock?

Didn't the same car, same manufacturer, also come in black?

don't think it did...grey or white, iirc. There's a single axel mercedes that came in black but not the G4 for some reason.

If i got one i'd repaint it...just doesn't suit nazi stuff being white....even though Hitler used a white mercedes on occassion but i think that was pre war.

edit: they did indeed come in black as well but those are very hard to find like the grey ones. Are these still in production? A couple of sites i looked at said 'backordered to 2011' so i assume so but on ebay they want up to $200 for white ones??

They did come in black, white and grey, the only one I could find available was the white, which I'm not too fond of. Thats why I was wondering about repainting it.

When it arrives I'll post some pictures.

i was all set to order one but they don't ship to canada. Most places in north america are sold out but they are readily available in europe, so it may just be a temporary shortage. I emailed Signature to see if it's still in production.

I used to repaint diecast cars all the time. Not hard, just a pain having to take it all apart. If you repaint, rub the paint with fine wet and dry sandpaper to rough it up slightlly and kill the shine, otherwise the new paint may flake off over time.

I think if you put a moustache on the little dude and raised his arm, he'd make a good Hitler.

we have been selling these for about 2 years now. they are out of stock at present but we should see more by march. although i must admit they arent very dependable on arrival dates. we have only been able to buy the white never the other 2 colors. i dont know why ive seen the black here in the states at a couple toy stores

good to know they'll be back, i'd like to get one. It's interesting: most of the model kits of this car show it painted white. So i guess white was not that uncommon a colour for Hitler to use. It just seems like it should be black, i guess (or dark grey like general burkholter's car). :)

They may have just had a back log of white cars, which is why you could only get white. If they do another production run they will probably make fewer whites and more blacks and greys.

1958Zelda, thats kind of what I had in mind, look forward to your pictures, I would like to know, were these vehicles ever actually close to the front lines or only for parades or what not?

I have'nt found any pictures of this vehicle dirty or where it seems it was close to the actual battle.

According to "German Military Vehicles" by David Doyle, after it became known that Hitler liked his parade G4, all wannabe high ranking generals wanted one for their use. The production was around 130 vehicles.

When used near the front, they were painted with the standard matte gray military paint.

An interesting pic in that book is a G4 with two MG-34's mounted in AA mounts, one behind the front seat pointed up and to the front and one behind the rear seat pointing up and to the rear. The vehicle was used as a AA guard vehicle behind the officers car.

Since, despite the 6 wheels, the G4 did not have 4 wheel drive so, and with the heavy weight of the car and no 4 wheel drive, front line use was limited, but they were at the front or just behind it.

TTT, well I feel the fool, I have that book and missed that , those are the only pictures I've seen of the " Military version ", most of the others are parade vehicles, thanks for the heads up.

The G4 arrived yesterday, just opened the box and of course I get a great surprise, broken passenger side wheel and the drivers side axle pivot point is broke also.

Now I have to go through the process of sending it back and hopefully getting one in good shape, by the way they do come in three colors, its marked on the box, white, black and grey, pretty well sucks.

[+] I've been on the fence about getting this one too. I think the white one looks really cool for some reason , it shows more detail to me but I'd rather have or re-paint one to panzer grey though to be more pc I guess.

......... @ any rate , sorry you got one broke in transit " ram " , that's a real disappointment . That kinda' stuff just really ticks me off. I hope the next one you get will be trouble free. Again , sorry this had to happen but unfortunately is not uncommon.

I am waiting for mine to be delivered now. I'm sorry yours was broken. I hope mine survives the trip.
I will receive it on wednesday. I'll post a reply when it comes in.

The three colors are like a wish list. White is the color you usually find. A black one occasionally pops up on EvilBay with a $199 or higher price tag but the gray one is a dream.

I've been watching G4's for over a year waiting for a black one, gray would be great.

I'll post some pictures when I get off work in the morning, as far as the color, I like the grey best, but I've never seen one for sell either.
