starting to have to make hard choices..

i knew this day would come; space is starrting to get very limited and i'm starting to have to make hard choices about what new stuff i get. I don't have room for everything anymore and much of the space i have left i'm reserving for special stuff that i know will come.

So as a result, i have had to pass on cool things i would like to put in my collection but can't justify the space for.

As i said, i knew this day was coming....but i don't like it.

:x

I hear you. Thats why I am having another 2 story detached garage built next to my attached garage, to make more room! :D First I had to convince the wife that it is a worth while investment and showed her how the value of my collections has increased (percentage wise) more than my 401K!! (Thank you BBi F-16's and F-18's  )

Well that is dedication, CW4USARMY.

And I know what you mean, aferg. I have reached this stage recently, and even looked into getting an off site storage locker. But these aren't cheap, and not going to spend $100/ month just to store models. So any future 1/18 purchases will have to be carefully considered.

Fortunately, the "want list" is pretty short.

Ditto. I'm just at bursting point now. My shelves are at the point where things aren't displayed but merely crammed in as tight as possible (Thank god for folding wings). A couple of planes have "somehow" found their way in to the lounge. Although my room mate even suggested moving her antique chest out of the lounge to may way for some display shelves!

i've been toying with the idea of culling my collection; removing items of less interest to make room for items of more interest, but boy, that's not easy either.

Ha! You should collect 1/6th too if you think you have problems!

A friend just told me he has a four bedroom house, and three of the bedrooms are full of toys.

I've already been thinning out my stuff. Auctioning off repeats of my 1:18.
I'm eyeballing my 1/6 stuff as it really is a scale that takes up the most room.
Definitely a hard choice to make though. Still mulling it over.

I'm right there, 1:18th and toys have put me over the edge. I already collected prop replicas and models. I never thought I would run out of room, but I am on the verge.

A long time ago I made a deal with the Wifey due to shrinking room for my toys. I can add anything, any scale as long as I sell one thing when the one thing arrives. At this point, lucky for me, the Wifey trusts me to honor that pledge.

Toy fanatics lie. 8)

Years ago when I collected 1/1 MV's, we had the same deal, but before I knew it, I had a yard full of trucks (2 M-37's, a M-715, a 1 1/2 ton Chevy, a 1/4 ton trailer and a WW2 GPW hulk)...... you'd of thunk she would catch on.

I'm surprised that so many of you guys in America having space issues too, your collections must be huge!

Guess dedicated collectors gonna have to juggle with space unless you live in Aussie outback or russian steppe

I'm living in a small apartment with my wife and its bursting at the seams for some time. I collect from 1/144 to 1/6 scales and have to cull and thin the herd bit by bit.

It is so dang hard to let go of things! Changed my mind selling stuff many times and extreme regret after letting go even more. Worst is when something very desirable is available and pretty much can't resist buying, adding to the headache

My greatest fear now would be something bad happens and I have to let go of my collection to put food on the table for my family

I feel your pain.

I was up to 19 1/6 scale Stuarts.

Now I am down to about 10 :( :( :(

I have shelves and shelves full of XD and an attic full as well.

It is bad when you do not know what you even have sometimes.

So for that reason I am starting to thin out.

But very S-L-O-W-L-Y .

It hurts just to throw a box away. :(

I put a yellow panzer and white Me-109 up on e-bay a few months ago.

These things were bringing in big bucks.

But mine sold for about $75 each.

That really hurt.

Next time I will put up a reserve.

If I do not get what I want .

So be it.

why do you need 10 1/6 stuarts? For that matter, why did you need 19?

As we're waiting for builders to finish our new property, currently all my collection except 2 x 1/18 a/c is in storage.

Our new house is going to be ready in April and will have a model room, but I know I've already got way too many in various scales to display in one go, so I'll have to rotate what's on show.- I sold off a big chunk of my collection several years ago and still regret it now, so I can't/won't go down that route again.

That one room is all the space I'll have because 'HER' law is simple; Whatever I want to put up in that room is fine, but the rest of the house is out of bounds to anything with guns, wings or tracks....

P.S.
'MY' law is also simple; If she asks how much I paid for an item I half the price and if she asks how much an item is worth, I double the value....

How can you ask a question like "why do you need 10 1/6 stuarts? For that matter, why did you need 19? ". I am truly ashamed that you can even ask.

You need 19 because, what happens if one breaks? How about if they were on sale?

Hang you head in shame toy leader.

Only have one of the 1/6 Stuarts, but I do have 4 kublewagens, 8 jeeps, 1 command car, 1 of the White scout cars, 4 kettenkrads, 2 shwimmerwagens, 1of the GI Joe navy anti-aircraft guns, and 2 of the GI joe half tracks. Doesn't sound like that much, but 1/6 takes up room fast. Sad things is, not one piece of it is on display. Just no room. Also around 100 1/6 figures (again not one piece of it on display, just no room). Have about half of the 1/18 and 1/16 armor on display but only enough room left for a few more pieces of it. Nearly all of the 1/32 is packed away. But, I do have a large two car garage which will soon be closed in. There will be nothing but shelves floor to ceiling. Should also have room for the several hundred 1/24 and 1/18 cars that I have. May have to put in one of those rolling ladders like you see in librarys.

Living here in the same town, my first response was "I need to contact him". Then I realized I am all full up myself!

You should be saying why don't you need 19.

Like Trip T said.....

Actually at one time in my life I wanted to make every variant made of the Stuart tank.

It is my fav tank. But alas it will never be done.

So I am thinning out the herd .

I am fixing to send one out to Taiwan to one of Weylens buddies.

It is close to $200 worth of shipping

Ever get the first Stuart? It was non-RC and you could fit your 12" soldiers in it unlike the RC ones.

I think it actually goes higher in price because of it's uniqueness.

I agree, I think everyone enjoys seeing peoples collections, maybe this needs to be in a new thread?

He only has 19, because he doesn't know where to hide the 20th.

ok today i had to remove one of my P-47 razorbacks from my collection, to make room for my 262 nightfighter. I'm not liking this. Not liking this at all. I have another Razorback on display, but it's in flight, not on its undercarriage, like the one i just removed is.

I feel dirty.

And the worst part is, this problem is only going to get worse, as i'm nearly full up. >:(
