Here's a question for everybody...

Did you ever have the screw mounts in your controller to a Heng Long tank just sheer off for no reason? I've had 4 screw mounts just break off inside the controller recently... 3 that hold the joystick's spring braces in place, and 1 that holds the back of the controller onto the front of it.

I've glued them, but I'm not sure how sturdy a fix this ultimately is. In my experience, this rarely works with plastic like this. I'm not sure this is a plastic that a welder will work on or not. It's very grainy, seems like styrene, but I'm just not sure.

I was really disappointed with this... Was planning to take it out this Friday evening to show some people, and now, poof.

I got my Tiger I with metal upgrades tonight... Very cool to get this, and the detail is impressive. There's a slight crack on the one skirt piece at the front corner like, but I'm probably going to just deal with it.

The metal upgrades really make the weight of it impressive... It's a nice piece though, and I really hope to get more tanks more frequently... Just to decide which ones to get then I guess.

I hope my transmitter doesn't snap at the screw posts inside like my last one did though. That'd be a bad thing.

I've never had a problem like that happen with the transmitter.

I have 5 HL tanks and they all run on the same frequency. Since it's just me using them and I'm not into battling, they all run with the same transmitter.
5 spares if any have problems.
Tigers are great, I have 3. 1 Tamiya, 1 Heng Long, and an Asiatam/Tamiya hybrid.
The Tamiya and Asia/Tamiya have metal lower hulls, wheels and tracks and are also very heavy. The Hl has metal sprocket/idlers and metal HL gearboxes but that's it. It has a very hard time making turns on carpet while the others chew their way through grass, rocks, and dirt with ease.

Yeah I love it... I wish you could buy these non-RC and just do static models too though. I'd really like to do some customs of them that way, and just have some runners that I really don't spiff up the paintjobs or finer details in any way.

I can easily see another Tiger or two in my collection though, in different paintjobs and with different accessories/figures around them. It's really a nice item.

The Transmitter I just can't figure out. So far it's fixed though, so we'll see how it holds up. If it breaks again I'm going to give epoxy a try on it, and if that doesn't take care of it then I'll hopefully have enough tanks by that point that I have extra transmitters around too, haha.

Jesse, try Loktite gel....it comes in a little blue bottle....make sure you get the gel. I've found it to be incredibly strong. Just let it dry 24 hours before using item

I'll check that out Aferg... The stuff I used, I knew better, and my next step was Devcon Plastic Welder... It's 2-part epoxy, but welds most plastics pretty well, even poly-vinyl, the bane of customizing.

It's going ok so far... I'm kinda hoping I can nab another tank next month but I'm now buying SW figures by the case and one will be coming up, so I'm sorta unsure if I should take the tank risk. I so want a Stug or Jagdpanther though. I just need to decide. I've barely run the Tiger, but just love staring at it.

After tearing a wheel off of my 1:16 Halo Warthog, I took the PIII out for a spin. These tanks are the only way to go these days.

Any news from HL on new product like the KT?

for the last year and a half 1/16 tanks have seemed pretty much as dead as 1/18, excluding expensive customs. Sign of the times.

i did a tad bit of digging.....is that not the Awesome Hobbies exclusive Jagdtiger, made by Matorro? It's a flattering pic of what i assume is the prototype. Are you saying it is coiming out for general release now?

Originally it was going to be a Matorro release but Heng Feng have and will be responsible for production.
Until now it has been supplied in Matorro King Tiger boxes but now Heng Feng have produced their own.
So this is a different paint scheme which should see wider distribution and I'm told that will happen in about 1 month.

I expect that at Awesome Hobbies the price will stay the same, where else it ends up being sold and how much, I have no idea, I was told they have set up a distributor in Germany, no info for the USA/Canada as yet.

The King Tiger was to be released after Chinese New Years 2010 and we've have photos come out since then. I just don't get it considering the 1:16 market was growing at that point in time. The Panther G was my last tank and it seems like it's been 2yrs now. Sigh....

yes the 1/16 market seems to be slowing, to the surprise of many, no doubt...myself included. I've noticed the KV-1 doesn't seem to be selling all that well, which may explain why there has been no Heng Long KV2 yet...i'm surprised by this too. It may cast a bit of a shadow over the possibilities of future russian armour in 1/16. Which could make things like british armour even a longer shot.

Between that and the Matorro KT and Sturmtiger being out of production (also very surprising.....what's up with matorro??) and Hobby Engine stuff being hard to find (at least in North America), 1/16 is starting to get as frustrating as 1/18 in some ways.

Speaking of Hobby Engine, I have the Leo 2A5 that I couldn't complete the conversion on and would be willing to sell. It has steel gears (not pot metal), Tamiya tracks, Speed 400 motors, metal tamiya sprockets and the custom sprocket adaptors. It needs electronics of your choosing, a gearbox mount and the custom wheel spacers to keep the treads from sliding around.

Just can't figure out why the KV-1 isn't selling. I am very happy with mine. Neat little tank and would love to have a KV-2, just for the stories about how tough that tank was.

Of course, they don't compare to the KT.

it's only my perception that they aren't selling well. I could be wrong. But they seem to lingre on ebay and Hobby King, which often carries items that don't sell well, for lower prices, has them for $69.99, which sorta tells me they're being dumped. That plus the fact that Heng Long didn't follow it up with a KV-2, which seems a natural, tells me it didn't sell great. Also, the WSN T-34 has not been followed up with a T-34/76, which also seemed like a natural. So maybe russian armour doesn't sell all that well? Dunno.

And if Russian armor doesn't do great, then british armour has no chance in 1/16 except for expensive kits of course.

Time will tell how it pans out but these observations have made me shy away from jumping into 1/16 with both feet like i planned to a while back.
