PLEASE REPORT TROLL & SPAM THREADS

Post by p51 » Thu Sep 09, 2010 11:06 am

Hey guys, so since we have a new forum I've obviously taken off that link that used to be up top that said 'click here to activate your account' that you had to do previously, which was a great way to stop spammers from getting on the boards. Well, the new PHPBB has a lot of cool 'make sure you're really a human' methods when you register, such as entering one of those annoying but necessary captcha letter/number code things. However well this does work, there are times a spammer CAN get through. That happened this morning, and a thread popped up about investing. Rather than post in the thread (which will be deleted when I see it), please report the thread!

How do you report the thread? This is a new feature in PHPBB, so I'm sure you guys are not used to it. You should be able to 'report' threads, which will bring it to myself and the other mod's attentions so that we can ban the spammer and delete his posts. So how do you do this? Well, on the bottom right of every post, there should be an icon that looks like: [!] If you click on that icon, it will allow you to report the post.

PLEASE ONLY USE THIS FOR SPAM/TROLL POSTS AND USE IT WISELY!

The nerve of this guy, spamming this thread.

Britt, I reported another of his spam post using the "!" but did not notice any changes or notices posted here. Not sure if the report worked or not.

There is also no "!" on the spammer's post here in this thread.

Please excuse me if I have made a mistake reporting or misused the thread here posting this

He's been deleted. Looks like we had two spammers, both blocked via IP and email. The nice new feature with phpBB3 is with one click I can delete ALL their posts :-) Used to be I had to delete them one at a time (ugh!).

The report won't make the post disappear, it'll just send me a notice saying you reported the thread for us to take a look at.

I'm trying some new methods to see if I can stop them, they seem to suddenly have figured out how to get past all security on the phpBB forums again.

Please actually report the message. On the bottom right of each post theres an icon with a exclamation point [!] in it, when you click that it allows you to report the post, which immediately brings it to my attention when I log in.

Snake Man, I think you might want to run a scan on your machine.

Yeah, I think it's you. I click on the link and it looks normal, plus the code for that link hasn't been changed.... I think you may have malware.

I find it hard to believe no one referenced Monty Python about this issue....

Having the report feature is a good idea....good hunting!
