Any possibilities of a Higins landing craft?

Post by 75th Ranger » Wed Jul 20, 2005 11:52 am

I was thinking and a lot of people have mentioned the need ffor some "squids" ...hahhaha Navy stuff, so i thought that maybe a WWII higgins landing craft with one or two salior ffigures could be simple and would sale, pretty good, since it was used almost everywhere!
The sailor figures could have removable lifejackets and removable helmets...one driver and one gunner.....the size of it should fit in the new smaller vehicle boxes or if bigger in the plane boxes...
who knows maybe even Buil-da-rama, could try this project in a preorder basis....are you there Mark?....
well, let me know what you guys think..

ps: the PRB is always in my dreams!

A Higgins boat would be nice. Include some sailors, I'd be first in line.

That would be a great idea! I think they were somewhere in the 30-50 foot length, so one would fit nicely within existing boxes. It could be engineered to float, and have a movable ramp. Think of how cool one would look filled with the XD Marine figures, or S1 US troops!

On the flip side, I've thought about building one from scratch using balsa wood for the hull. The boat is rather boxy in shape, and I wouldn't have to worry about bending the wood. However, thats one more project to add to the eventual "to do" list...

I made one out of balsa wood for my plastic army men when I was a kid.
Didnt float, was more like a landing/submarine craft.

BMC made a nice plastic one in 1/32.

I have all the plans done for one in 1/18, but can't say if I'll ever go through with it.

I should be in production on 1/6 Higgins' craft by end of this year, hopefully.

Heheh. I know Im slow as heck, but I did make two passes at this since January and both turned out weak. I signed up for a "crafts" class at Long Beach City Community College starting in Sept. that looks to cover some of my deficiencies.

(i always thought those jokes about basket weaving classes were urban legend - but they really have a basket weaving course there too ! Im saving that one till next semester.)

Be careful - basket weaving is harder than it looks!

Only someone from UCLA would say that!

(Sorry, Tman, Trojan alum here, couldn't resist)

As for having 1/18 plans, I second posting them if you could. I don't have nearly enough projects piling up.

Raising killer bees and cat juggling is way more fun than basket weaving!

a Higgins would be a smart choice. Popular, not too big, cool and everybody is going to want to fill it with troops.....equating to huge surge in figure sales, both US army and marines.

Right on the money Fergy.
that is why i said it!
I will sell and also increase sales...if you think about it it actually hold the 6 Marines....so one ship 6 marines....2 ships 12 marines....you do the math!

I'm going to have to have a Ranger's idea supply shack!

maybe 21st will let me do a Bivuac in their patio, and once in a while i can tell them scoop that there is out in the field!

Six marines to an LCVP are luxurious accomodations. They were used to transport a platoon of 36, or 12 and a JEEP. :)
