How much would you pay for a Sdkfz 7 ?

Post by pickelhaube » Mon Jun 14, 2010 6:57 am

This would be a full/lmed build.

Aprx 15.11 inches long , 5.61 inches tall and 5.11 inches wide.

Aprx 38 cm long , 14.44 cm tall and 13 cm wide.

My guess that it would be the in $250-$350 price range for a unbuilt kit.

Who would be interested in it ?

I have asked this same questions to some of my regular customers.

They all said that is why they buy my stuff . For the detail.

But there is always a first time. But I do try to get as accurate as I can and as much detail as practical.

Some guys may think I do a simple job now.

Every little thing has got to be made by hand . The 222 had clsoe to 100 parts . That project took me over 3 weeks to build. This probably will take at least 2 weeks to complete.

If there is interest ( my 10 minimum ) I will do it.But the way things are going I may have to take up front deposits. Because as I am making the prototypes I do not bring in any money.

Times are a changin' and not in the best direction.

My regular work is non existant. Now with the oil crisis it is down right horrible.

But that is enough of me. Let's see how the poll goes.

The Sd kfz 7 looks to be popular. It looks like if I can make it for $250 it will move.

After the Firefly runs it's course I will do the M-3 Tank Destroyer. I will probably build the 75 version.

Mr . Pierrce up in Ore has been waiting for about a year for me to make it. So it will be the next short kit.

After the M-3 runs it's course then it will be time for the next full build.

I will put a poll up to see what gets built. Here are the choices.

ONE OF THESE WILL GET STARTED AFTER THE POLL GETS PUT UP. THIS WILL BE THE PEOPLES CHOICE !!!!!!

Hetzer aprx $300
T-34/76 aprx $300
Sd. Kfz 7 aprx. $250

A word on aircraft.

Right now I am churning out armor . It seems that I am in a comfort zone. They are fun to make and build.

I have made a few aircraft mods in the past and some of them have been very successful. I keep on saying that I will do aircraft and never do it.

I did have in mind to do a Me-163 and feel that I could have done a turn key finished product for $250 but I have heard from a farley reliable source that somebody will be making one. I got as far as the rough in and after hearing THAT NEWS I shelved the project.

I AM NEVER EVER GOING TO SPEAK UP FOR skywork toys but some of their kits that they are selling are not that bad of a price. Some I said not all of them. Plus they are offering decals with there kits . I do not have that worked out yet.

Clipped wing Spitfire . I was geared up to start that project and was going to take on extra help. The guy who I was going to take under my wing. Got a job working with one of his relatives. This guy was an accomplished modeler who has won several awards in some of our local modeling contests.

But that did not work out he got a job :?

So as always I am a one wagon outfit and I am doing everything by myself WITH NO HELP FROM A 3D PRINTER. So I simply do not have the time to build , mould , pour and paint a project from start to finish.

The way I do my pricing I think is fair and if you talk to the other customizers ( You guys know who they are ) they say I am too cheap.

Maybe so it depends who you talk to. But my deal is volume. I try to put the product out there at a reasonable price and move on to the next project. This year alone I put quite a few projects out there.

To the delite of many :D :D :D

Comments welcomed

ALL of your work is very much appreciated,Matthew.

You do this for the joy of the hobby and to help fellow collectors.

You put in a lot of time, effort and hard work into these projects. And I am pretty sure that you are not making any money of these projects.

Thanks for all you bring to this forum, and the 1/18 community in general. :D
