Is there interest in this custom short kit ?

I am thinking of making the rear doors static to keep the price down. Or would you guys rather have the doors work ?

What's the difference, between, this Half track and the stock 21st besides the tire and Jerry Cans?

The rear end.
And a few other things. The tool boxes are different as well as the front bonnet sides. There are a couple of armoredprotectors left and right side.

hey just had a idea, was there any urge to do 1/18 aircraft engines so that these upcoming kits can have detail? The builder could cut open engine access panels and have a nice engine in there.
or detail kits, like ammo bays etc... or how about folded wing ribbing for the avengers when folded, etc...

Pickel, I'd go for this custom! I know the hinges for the rear doors are going to be quite labor intensive to reproduce, but if you don't make them could you still make the doors as an add on?.........To be glued on or maybe made to work by the modeler?
I'd go for two!

Well I gave myself a Pappy's Day present today. I worked on my Sdkfz 251 C . There was not much interest in it but it has been laying around a while so I decided to work on it.
I never work on any of my personal stuff . So I treated myself to a full day of customizing. Maybe this should be switched over to the custom section. But officially it could be a custom kit .
Check it out.
BTW I did not putty in the rear hull just in case.
I did not get a chance to work on this side. But I side make the bonnet armor covers.
It looks almost like a 21st factory custom !! I used a dark gray primer and Model master's OD green that I had lying around. All rattle cans.
I cut a piece of card board about 3 inches by 4 inches and cut a 1/4 inch slit in it. Then I held it about a 1/4 inch off of the model and sprayed the lines. I used 2 inch clear Scotch tape so I could fallow the original camo pattern. It was easy to do and took about 10 mins

Pickel, that looks great! Your last two pics fooled me for a second or two

then I took a look at the other pics. How difficult is it to remove the side storage bins?
What are your thoughts on the rear doors..........static or functional?
I really like the look of this 251, nice job!

I will like the doors to open.I think swaping doors that really open for doors that are static will be the same as preferring the FOV tiger with less opening doors rather than the 21st century Tiger. If i go to the trouble of changing the rear section and painting the vehicle to match the doors,i don't mind paying a little extra to have the ability of displaying the halftrak with the doors open. And please consider to make this kit and a Stummel kit.

I have not touched this since June 2010 !!!
This has been a pet project for a long long time.
I had a couple of days and I finished ( almost ) The 251.
I have made the rear doors to function !!!
I will post pics later today !!
Here is the poll I ran back in the day.

This would be very cool, I may be interested in one depending on the price, I have a tight budget. Would it be a very difficult conversion? Or would it be doable for a beginner like myself?

Here we go.
I am missing the direction indicators on the side and I need to make another head lamp.
he Notek is copied from a Indy truck and the head lamp is scratch made.
The hinges are fully operational. The " D" handle is static.
When I am ready to make these I will give full info on the conversion.
All you really have to do is pop off the tool boxes and cut off the rear end.
The front bonnet needs to be trimmed as well then just locate the misc. parts.
Cutting and the preparing of the original 251 should take only about a 1/2 hour.
For you beginners I would say no more than an hour.

It is in times like this that i am glad i did not switch to 1/16 scale.
if it wasn't for you pickle,i would have turn to the 1/16(darksied

)a long time ago.
I must admit that 1/16 is very tempting and i am still thinking about mixing scales soon.
You should consider this project for your next short build. And don't just count on us the forum members, there are a lot of German 1/18 armor fans in ebay that will love to get this.
German armor always welcome.I am in for one.
