RC Plane Talk

Well, at Digger's suggestion, i've decided to start a sticky regarding r/c planes i come across that are 1/18 or close. Judging from the pms i get i'm not the only one interested in these but it makes sense to keep everything in one thread.

It will also leave them all in one place for future reference for anyone that is interested.

So watch here, as i'll be posting any new goodies that come along and judging from past experience there will probably be several a year.

I'll also post any cool pics i find, like this one:

C-17 coming. Won't be anywhere near 1/18. Probably around 1/32. I only mention it because it's still huge and i know there are a few guys interested in the r/c B-2 and it's about the same scale.

This is the only info i have so far:

http://www.ready2fly.ch/index.php?javas ... 600&h=1166

Should be around 5 foot wingspan.

can follow the above thread if interested in more details.

dont' know much about the f-16, it's clearly miles too big for 1/18.

The f-14 is almost bang on 1/18. You can buy it cheapest here:

aerialhobby.com

If you're looking for specific info on flying the planes etc, best to ask your questions here:

if you want to see what a 1/18 B-58 Hustler looks like check this out:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=906009

Spot on 1/18. You can buy a kit for it but it's just a few vacuformed parts, like nacelles and canopy plus plans. Most of it you have to scratch build.

Sure looks purdy though...

Man! If it came as a pre-painted whole kit like the modern birds, I'd be all over it! Too Cool! :D

info on the C-17 is out. As i predicted, it's just under 5 feet long, about 1/36 scale.

if anyone is interested, the 63 inch B-2 bomber is now selling for $90. Shipping is $42. By far the best price i've seen. From all reports it's a really nice model. Works out to about 1/30 scale.

Price shows as higher but when you create an account to buy it the price will drop.

I'm pretty tempted..

Hind Helicopter:

fuselage only, no rotors......comes as a kit, white plastic, needs to be assembled and paitned but should be pretty straight forward. Clear canopies. No decals.

34 inches long, works out to 1/19.4 scale. About 8% undersized. Lines look good. That's all i know about it.

Scroll to bottom of this page to see the prototype.....i am told the real thing looks better.

No rotors? So are those sold separate or are you supposed to use rotors from other RC kits? Bummer there's no ordnance but I know that's par for the course with RC. Still, it looks very promising considering the alternatives (basically, NONE!).

Keep us posted if/when these become available for purchase.

well you're supposed to buy r/c rotors, which look nothing like the rotors on the real Hind.....so you'd have to scratch build somthing.

They are available for sale now...in fact they have been for a year or so.

wonder the scale ?

that's the Starmax F-14, it's been out for about a year now. If you want to just display it, the airframe only can be purchased for $125. No spots.

F-22 Raptor. About 1/18.6 scale. Wings are a bit small. Not bad looking, i wish the canopy was tinted.

F-35 LIGHTNING II
just a tad bit larger than 1:18
styrofoam - airframe only = $74
http://www.bananahobby.com/2027.html

BLUE ANGELS - A-4 SKYHAWK
just a tad bit smaller than 1:18
styrofoam - airframe only = $64

If anyone gets 1 of these 2, kindly post comparrison pics (with the other 1:18 jets). Do give a review on its quality too...

i have the grey version of the skyhawk. It's pretty nice. The canopy comes glued on, which makes putting in a pilot figure difficult and painting the interior impossible. Shape is decent and scale is almost perfect. Overall very nice for the money, if you're not too picky about exactness of shape and detail.
