When looking at supersonicfifi's post about the Su-27 I noticed this C-17 on one of the side videos.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUyR0eez ... re=related
is this about 1/18 or a little larger? - trying to imagine a 3 and3/4" guy standing next to it.

Yeah, it'd be neat to see about 30 or so paratroopers fly out the back for a mini "mass tac" airborne operation. Or, better yet a palletized 1/18 hummvee drop out the back. I bet it could carry the extra weight, would just have to figure out center of gravity and a way to "release" the load.
The paratroopers would be easy - just roll them all up in their parachutes and lower the ramp and give a good nose up, they all come falling out the back. It'd be more realistic if a motorized interior wall could be controlled to push them out slowly as the plane remained in horizontal flight.

U-2 update: upon further inspection, these appear to be loafers...er, upon further inspection, this U-2 appears to represent a U-2R, which makes it almost exactly 1/18 scale. The U-2A looked the same but was much shorter in both length and span.
The U-2R was also the basis for the later TR-1, which had the big surveillance pods, that looked like huge drop tanks, under each wing. The U-2R did not carry these pods however. The U-2R was used extensively over vietnam and other theatres as well, during the cold war.
So anyway, it's almost bang on 1/18......you listening CW?

Oops!, I forget to check this thread sometimes. Im all over that U2 when you find what you think is a reasonable price. I still havent built my B-25 yet. I'm having another garage built that I plan to use to finally learn how to paint and weatherize small scale stuff. First project will be to put together that B-25!!aferguson wrote:U-2 update: upon further inspection, these appear to be loafers...er, upon further inspection, this U-2 appears to represent a U-2R, which makes it almost exactly 1/18 scale. found a CH-53 body. I think it's a bit big, around 1/16.5 scale but it's the only one that's close that i've found.
Take a bit of work to make it look good but for those willing, it's a good way to go:

Re: RC Plane Talk
The C-17 has been released. Nowhere near 1/18, it's actually about 1/35. Still at nearly 5 feet long it would look impressive.
Airframe kits are $180 at this place but it will surely be cheaper in time. Probably down to $120.

Re: RC Plane Talk
update on the U-2R: will be available november in airframe only. Price could be under $100.
Here's a recent picture of it:

The Tornado ADV, which nobody seems to give a hoot about but i am personally quite excited about, is due around the same time. Likely do be around $150 though.

Re: RC Plane Talk
Hey Aferg, can you re-post the website that has the latest picture of the U-2R? The link isnt working (maybe you have to be a member?) Im definitely intertested in that one. Would do the tornado too if I had any painting skills
Re: RC Plane Talk
here's the thread, the pic is on page 8 about half way down:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthre ... r+1&page=8
The tornado is supposed to be coming in RAF colours as well....shouldn't need any repainting.

Re: RC Plane Talk
RAF Tornado is for sale. $104. I'm not crazy about the black trim but i guess it could be fairly easy to overpaint, as long as the colour can be matched...there's probably a testors spray colour that's perfect. Otherwise, looks delish...

Re: RC Plane Talk
Anyone thinking of getting the Su-34, the time to act is now. Here's the best price you're likely to find on it and they are now out of production, as i understand it. So when they're gone, they'll be tough to find and need to be bought second hand.
When you sign up for an account the price drops by $40, to $116....with shipping it will cost just under $160.
It's a tad larger than 1/18, about 1/17 and from all the pics i've seen a very nice lookng model. 57 inches long, about 35 inch span.
Choice of 2 camo versions, blue and green. The green is not accurate, as far as i can tell but the blue is pretty good. Even though the picture is of the green version it is the blue version, which you can see a pic of here:

This is the place to order from cheap:

Re: RC Plane Talk
if anyone wants one of the 63 inch span B-2 bombers, aerial hobby has them for $80 plus shipping. The catch is they don't come with decals. Otherwise a nice model.
Not advertized on their website.....go to aerialhobby.com and send them an email regarding the b-2 kit with no decals.
