In the seller's forum, I noticed that the someone is selling the 1st series P-51 for $150.00. Is this a reasonable price? I also have this plane and was wondering if it is worth this price.

mmmmmm..... I wouldn't say so right now. Again, anybody could pay that at any time, and in the past the S1 P-51 MIB exceeded that amount. E-Bay is the real thermometer on the going prices, so check the completed auctions to see what they are going for. By far the highest paid price for an XD item was the Desert 109 at over $500!

I strongly disagree with you. EBay is not an accurate thermometer for what a piece, of any size, is worth.

EBay has some very dumb people shopping, without even bothering to do a little research to see if an eBay price is worth it.

A recent sale of a 1/6 German "250" Half-track for over $700 for a piece currently being sold on the makers site for $229. The eBay seller even gave the name of the maker in the description. A simple Google wquld have saved him $500 bucks.

EBay takes advantage of "dumb" people. I use eBay all the time looking for pieces I want and selling but silly prices or bidding wars simply turns me off.

EBay can be used as a source of value but only one source. You waste money using eBay only. Too much sand for you my friend.

i think ebay is an excellent barometer for determining the value of a thing. Lots of places will place a 'book value' on a toy or item but if you can buy it for less on ebay then the book value is somewhat meaningless...same applies if you have to pay more.

By having an auction site that is open to large numbers of buyers and often from around the world, you have a good guage of what people are willing to pay for something and hence its true value.

Not to ruffle any feathers, but I'm not sure "barometer" or "thermometer" describes Ebay correctly. Value is relative...it's whatever a buyer is willing to pay for whatever. Large scale value or "fair market value" has to do with too many things to go into here....but to make short of it....if a 1st gen P-51 is worth $150 to you, then by all means go for it. Weigh that against the same money buying three new gen BBI P-51's, and maybe you might change your mind. Depends on you my friend....what are you willing to spend to get what you want?

Market value is whatever a buyer and seller agree upon. It's safe to use EBAY as a guide but I would check other sources too if available.
