GOT MY WINTER PANTHER TODAY

yes I finally got it and I like very much. It is in a regular 21st century box with the iron cross printed on the package, it is a newer style package and boasts two figures, 1 tanker, and officer (the old officer's head in the new tanker's body). Both figures have the head radios and binoculars. I love the paint, no new features though other than the new paint and xtra figure. Be sure you armour guys grab this, it was money well spent, and we need to support the armour to keep it coming.

Haven't ordered that one yet, but think its very cool that they included two figures. Sounds like they went the extra bit by making one the commander head and the other the crew head. Very cool! It seems that with these new German tanks at the small retailers and the new M113, that 21st is beginning a trend of including two figures. Thats the way to do it!

@Marksman1: Where did you buy it? I'm also looking for this version + the winter tiger. Are these only available at online stores?

The Panthers are plastic and have only been sold through online retailers.
So far all armor at WM has been some diescast....
Any word on what that M4 looks like?
The bbi M4 is on preorder at SBP but with no date. If anyone speaks with Rob maybe they could get us a date? And with armor comes figures....

The XD Winter Panther (same as the origional, just in a winter paint scheme) is currently avaliable only to small retailers such as Bad Cat Aviation, The Toy Federation, SBP and a few others. It comes with two figures (the BoB series German Winter Tanker) and the vehicle is of plastic construction.
Only the Winter Sherman, Desert Bradley, Winter & Gray Tiger, and M113 APC tanks have been avaliable at Wal Mart in diecast, under the Motorworks brand. Small retailers have not gotten Diecast vehicles, unless they bought and resold the Wal Mart versions.
Hope this clarifies!

I actually broke down and became a bad cat aviation customer for this purchase, the winter panther. The winter tiger I purchased at wal-mart, Both tanks, although they are rehashes, are impeccable and I love them both.

The Panther is awesome - blows away the WM Tiger in terms of appearance. I might have to get the plastic Tiger now if this is any indication of how 21C paints the armor vs. New Millenium. Awesome - if you collect armor just get one, trust me.

Would anyone that has this Panther or Tiger that is plastic and comes with two figures be able to post some pictures? I would like to see the picture of the figures it comes with. Thanks

Dose anyone know if these Panthers will show up in die cast at Wal Mart or are these going to be strictly sold to online stores?

I don't think we will see the Winter Panther at WM, but anything is possible.
The second figure is the easiest custom ever. Take the head off your old tanker figure and stick it on the BoB tanker. That is the figure, exactly. If you guys still want some pics I will shoot some with my lousy 2 mp camera. More importantly would be if someone could post some pics of the M113 - maybe with the hatches open, etc....?

G'day all,
For those of you that've seen the winter panther up close, how does it compare with the earlier 2 XD panthers? I've noticed that the winter ones doesn't have its tools, tow cables etc as detailed /painted like the ambush version? Contemplating getting the winter scheme one hence, would like to hear from those that've been there done that.
Also, what 's the probability of future panther repaints? 'Cos I've noticed that the paint schemes of the XD & 32X are almost identical. Thanx.

A friend and I were just discussing this....and I say despite some shortcomings it is great, 2d to the Ambush but still essential in my mind. He noted the tank has a greenish hue the distracts the eye.
It is annoying that the lower hull & upper hull are two different tones of paint (as they are two pieces clearly painted separately).
With 2 figures and going for about 40 bucks plus s&h, I say can't miss. A couple of the tools are painted over but those are fun to do yourself anyway. The tow cables are fine though.

Thanx for the intel Digger. As to your observation about the different paint tones. I took a closer look at the pic of the boxed vehicle on SBP's site. Would you by any chance be referring to the shades of brown? I think that might be the 'weathering' applied at the factory. Thanks again.
Cheers!
BTW, does anyone have any out of box pics of the winter panther? Thanks in advance.

The weathering is something all of it's own - I mean there is a distinct difference in the tone of the two pieces, and it might be on purpose (to denote the bottom part as dirtier/more weathered) but it is nonetheless an eye sore when looking up close because it doesn't "blend" but rather just changes color at a certain point where the two pieces meet.
If you PM me your email address I'll gladly shoot some pics of the Tank and send 'em your way.

Thanx very much for the pics Digger.

Now I see which part you were referring to.
Yep, you were right on that the greenish hue does look more conspicuous upclose. But its quite alright from afar. My guess is that they were trying to achieve the 'whitewashed effect' ie showing traces of the original coat of paint under a layer of hurriedly applied whitewash. Other than that looks pretty good.

G'day Buzzard / Digger
Is there any chance of posting the pic’s up here for all to see, I would be very interested in seeing any clear shots of the Panther (or any other XD item for that matter) as detailed non prototype shots are very scarce on the Web and unfortunately I can’t just go to the local retailer to check them out as none of them bother to them XD.
If I had the web space (and the collection) I would endeavour to make reference images available (much like Teamski does when he gets new item or creates custom stuff), I think this kind of resource would be an invaluable reference point for fellow collectors.
I would be glad to take images of the few un-customised items that I have in my meagre collection and then make these available to such a resource.
To me pictures really do say a thousand words.
Otherwise could you please also PM me with the shots of the Panther.

Pics sent Spud. Not sure about the PM question though. Maybe someone else could shed some light on 'dis?
BTW, do you frequent Groundpounder HQ - the Aussie 1/6 board. I do recall a posr several months back regarding a local dealer bringing in such stuff Down Under (can't recall which). You might wanna enquire wiv 'em.
There's a couple of pics of the earlier XD Panthers on this page in case you're interested.

Good link, however I've had already viewed those shots, thanks for the heads up anyways.
Yes I'd heard something simular about this importer rumour and Groundpounder HQ , I will have to do a forum search and see what pops up.
Anyway thanks again for your help mate.
