Stirring the Pot

I just was thumbing through the lastest Fine Scale magazine this morning when I was in the office.
Hasagawa and Trumpeter are coming out with two new models in 1/32 scale . The F-14 @ $59.95 and the F-14 @ $229.95.These are kits that you need to build and paint.
They are the same price as their big brothers in 1/18 scale which are built and painted.
The days of $39.94 are long gone in every scale.
Customs are even higher as everybody knows.
Were am I going with this I do not know .
Oh, I remember it does seem like a good price that we are paying for our built 1/18. All we have to do is pull them out of the box and enjoy.
Just stirring the pot.

that's all well and fine but if people wont' pay the prices, even if they seem like a bargain, it doesn't do the manufacturer much good.
Hence 21c's demise..

Trumpeter has been laughably overpriced for years. If you think it's just us who are unhappy, check out this thread from the kit guys at Hyperscale!

Yeah, but 'modelers' think they are a breed apart from the rest. They'll whine and cry over anything that just doesn't seem to fit their budget.
I'd like to drive a Rolls Royce, but I can't. You don't see me whining about it.

I drove a Rolls Royce...into a paint booth, and out.
You would think these model companies would latch on to a money maker by releasing some less detailed models pre-painted. Use some of their already existing molds, eliminate or make a less detailed cockpit or exposed motor and hatches etc, and a few other things.
Especially in 1:32 me thinks. There are plenty of aircraft the collecting public wants without having to put them together and paint them too. Most don't have the time or the patience.

Well, I guess am one of those that "whine" about it..
Trumpeter is WAY over priced for the scale as Revell proved when it released a 1/32 Ju-88 for 1/2 the price of a recent Trumpeter release. I thought maybe Trumpeter had learned from the market when they released the Bf 109E at a reasonable price, but with their new/upcoming releases, they are still out of my pricerange and that is typically hard to do. The only way I buy a Trumpeter kit is off Ebay (Just bought a P-47D kit for $72, regularly priced about $118)
