I want to let everybody here know I picked up a bad trojan and bogus program on Photobucket last night. I use Photobucket and link here for some of my custom work. I was uploading some pictures and my computer started acting strange and slowing down. I tried control alt delete to shut down the page and it was blocked. I powered down computer and started up and at desktop in big letters Your computer has been infected. A program called Internet security 2010 came on and did a scan and posted all sorts of trojans and issues. To remove them I had to buy the program. This was a totally bugus program and it was really nasty to remove. Watch out anybody that uses photobucket.

If anything ever pops up claiming an unknown (to you) program has discovered virii on your PC and purchasing the program is your only hope - power off your PC immediately (hold in your power button) and disconnect from the internet.

You have picked up a bit of fraudware which is trying to trick you into downloading more junk. It will block all attempts to run your existing antivirus progs and will cut off access to all known sites containing legitimate AV programs.

Using another PC you should dl SuperAntiSpyware onto a disc (many of this frauds also break your USB function so you can't install from a flash drive), boot into Safe Mode, and attempt to install from the disc. If it does not work for you, then you have a trip to the local geeks on your list of things to do.

Avoid Best Buy if you can. Find a local guy and save a bundle. I usually charge $60-$100 depending on the severity. BB charges $200 if you bring it to them, $300 if they come to you. Then they try to sell you more Av, like Norton or McAfee.

Try Avast or AVG as they offer free versions of their commercial software that are as good if not superior to Norton or McAfee. I haven't paid for an AV in a decade, nor should you.

Stay off the internet without a firewall or AV running, unless you want this to happen again - and it will.

PS - Just visited my Photobucket account and nothing happened, so I'm guessing it was localized or they have dealt with it.

Another advantage of Avast is that it monitors web pages and will pop up a warning if malware is on the page, giving you the option to break the connection to that page before it fully loads.

That same thing happened to my son's computer. Malware is what this stuff is. Try getting the free Malwarebytes download. Some malware is so good it blocks trying to load programs to remove it. The one we had was called total security and even looks like Windows and Norton protection symbols and allows norton to run but you cannot manage it. Malwarebytes anti malware program removed it all after a couple of complete scans. I recommend this free program even as preventative.

Malwarebytes is what I used to eliminate the bug but I first had to use rkill as that stops the program so you can use the malwarebytes. It definitely came from photobucket and I have read other people have had issues there.
