Was over at the database looking for some info and ran across the Trifecta of 21C rare birds.

Tendor Terror
Sweet Arlene
Nuthin' But Trouble (We know Mr. Lumley has "Nuthin'" ;) )

But what are some other ones that rank up there? How available was the P-38 "Louise Shark"?

Just wanted to spark some coversation :D

Now I don't know for a fact, but I would guess the more rare items would include........in no particular order......

BBI
Cripes A Mighty P-51D
Hurry Home Honey P-51D
Pearl Harbor Zero
RAAF P-51D Camo
RAAF P-51D Silver

21st
Desert ME-109E
Rall BF-109G-6
Priller FW 190D
Spinach ME-109E
Pappy's Corsair
Tuskegee P-51D

There may be more, but that is what comes to mind right off hand.

Tuskeegee P-51D was not all that rare. They went to the small retailers and even made it to TRU. P-38 Louise is the rarest of the P-38s. The three P-51s mentioned by NWarty are probably the rarest of the rare among 21c aircraft.

Hell,
I'd love to know if someone here at the Q has a "Sweet Arlene"

I got six of them...

Really- wasn't that one of the planes given away at the LA screening of "Sahara" by our own TKO?

The Tuskegee sure seemed rare out here on the East Coast - at the local stores anyway.

Sorry to side-track a wee bit

If I recall for the last 2 years on ebay, I believe I have ever only once seen the Goverment Building for sale.

On the database its listed as a prototype so was I mistaken?

If its a production, then its really the rarest among the playsets

It was a good BIN price and I was not fast enough

I don't think the 21st Government Building ever made it into production. I do remember a member doing a custom of it.
We had seen pics of the Gov.Building and a Bridge playset at one of the toy shows but nether ever went into production. Would have been cool if they did.................

People have also erroniously used the Govt building illustration for the French farm house....

I'd say the rarest and most valuable 21C aircraft today aside from the SDCC exclusives and Tender Terror are:

Me-109E Spinach
Me-109G Rall
FW-190 Priller
Spitfire DWK
P-47 Razorback Checkertail w/nose art
P-38 Haleakala II
F4U Corsair Boyington original release
Stuka JU-87 Yellow Nose

I guess I was mistaken then,

unless some lucky fella bought a prototype that slipped pretty unnoticed 8)

And now we're back to your regular programming...

How did I completely omit the DWK.... I guess one should not mix XD and work.....

I never followed it that closely, but is the P-47 Razorback Checkertail w/nose art really that rare to be in with the others? I don't recall hearing/reading of the history either. Was it a special release - exclusive, or just a production run modification?

Thanks

Kris

Not sure, someone explained the story about that here, but it's very hard to get these days. Every time one comes up at auction it goes high.
The Checkertail itself goes high now even without the nose art.
You can buy the decal at BCA though I do believe.

I think honorable mentions should go to:

ME-109E Galland
ME-109E Winter
JU- 87 Winter
Spitfire ZPA
Spitfire 4Q D-Day

Heck everything that wasn't made in the last year of 21C is high, but these go higher. That's not mentioning the Hueys, Cobras, and a few more like the yellow tailed FW-190 or the Clown Nose
Me-109G Graf.

The NKK Spit is high but it doesn't seem to be that rare. There's usually one every week up for auction.
Not sure about some of the P-38's either.

What is so funny about some of the now rare aircraft is how poorly they sold when first released. 21c actually had to have a contest to rid the shelves of FW-190s, there were tons of red-nosed "Herman Graff" Bf-109s at my local Wal Marts to the point that they impeded newer releases. Supercobras and even Spitfires were at my local hobbytown for a while.

I wish I had picked more up back in the day, but I often questioned myself on getting another AH-1W Supercobra for $55 another FW-190 for $50 or another Spitfire for $55, another P-47 for $40. It was just so expensive :P

Fortunantly, I did get multiples of some now rare birds such as the FW-190 and even the Spitfire, so I can rotate displays and have a "backup" in case one gets destroyed

What about the "Starburst" Bf-109? Or the "Borrough of Lambeth"-Spit?

Wow...I actually have a "Graf Starburst" 109. My first and only 109 and didn't realize I may have snagged a good one at the time.

I'm still miffed with its warped plastic MG151's, purple pilot and slop in the wing. Other than those things, I love it. :D
