I have the special edition box p40 flying tigers warhawk. My pilot looks just like the pilot from my p 47 . I just saw a p 40 flying tigers in the motorworks box that has a pilot wearing the flying tigers jacket with the patch on the front left shoulder and the map on his back. Anybody know if this pilot was ever available separately?

I am pretty sure this pilot was not released on a card.

Razor is correct. The figure sporting Flying Tigers garb came with both the original Motorworks & 21c Flying Tigers P-40 and RAF P-40. A variation on the figure with different paint was included with the Langley P-40. It is not a bad figure, especially concerning the jacket with all the patches. Some of the other paint apps, particularly on the helmet, were not the best, however. It was not released with subsequent P-40s such as the Sky Captain, Pearl Harbor, and Special Edition Flying Tigers aircraft. As Razor said, it was never available carded.

Back in the day, I only ever found the RAF P-40s at Wal Mart in my area and obviously British pilots did not wear AVG uniforms, so I made my own RAF pilot and kept the AVG one around as a souvenir. Then, when I got my re-released Flying Tigers P-40 several years later, I had the correct figure for it

I guess the upcoming JSI P-40 in the new British paint scheme will not have a pilot?

Of the early 21c P-40s (RAF vs. Flying Tigers) the pilots had a similar mold, but different paint jobs. At least my RAF P-40 pilot was different than my 1st Flying Tiger P-40 pilot.

Really? My RAF P-40 has an AVG pilot, complete with the Chinese Nationalist & US insignia and Flying Tigers patch. The Langley field one differed by having different patches and a different colored helmet.

So the special edition artwork box AVG P40's pilot had no special jacket art?

I'm interested to get this version but this could be a deal breaker for me

If you want a close P-40 Pilot, use the 21st Navy (corsair) one. The flying tigers used a lot of Navy flying gear for their pilots.

You could always get the leather jacket off Mutt Williams and paint it up to look like the P-40 Pilot...

Thanx for all the info guys. Im kinda new to this hobby. Only been collecting for a couple of months and i cant stop. Tman, i like that RAF p 40 .I hope your talking about the desert shark north africa model? Now that i know it has an AVG pilot it might be worth the purchase just to make my Flying Tigers model accurate. I can use any pilot without distinct markings for the RAF plane.

Pretty sure.

My 1st issue AVG is actually technically my brothers. But the RAF P-40 does have a AVG pilot with the patch.

What I remember is that the RAF pilot's helmet was lighter than the pilot included with the AVG.

Perhaps his AVG has the Langley pilot ... never took it out. But I do remember that the AVG pilot had a darker brown helmet (which looked more realistic).

My Special Edition AVG P-40 has a P-38 pilot.
