Actually it was the FedEx delivery man, but he did bring what I got myself for Christmas. Been wanting one of these since 1/18 armor has kind of dried up but the shipping costs were just more than I was willing to pay. And then
BAM!, several of them showed up on ebay from a dealer in California with a "make an offer" listing. Made my offer which was accepted, used my 10% off ebay cupon, and with the
free shipping got it for a grand total of $93. The paint scheme is differnt from what is on the box so I'm not sure if there is just one cammo scheme or two. I like the one I got much better than the one on the box. I have yet to run any of my 1/16 RC tanks but I may try this one just to have some fun with the cat.

I recently picked up this Stug off ebay for $103 shipped. Considering the prices which some 1/18s are bringing on ebay, I was very happy with prices I paid. The figure in the Stug is a 1/18 and I think scale wise, it matches up perfectly.

i'd like to say their paint jobs are getting better, but i'd be lying.
Otherwise, very spiffy looking ve-hicles....although i'm of the opinion that self propelled guns/tank destroyers should be cheaper than the regular tanks, since they are simpler to make and don't have complicated turret mechanisms.
Still, it's nice to have psuedo 1/18 amour available in abundance and with a bright future.

I think the deal with the ebay cupon was that several weeks ago it was down for a short period. I received an email explaining it and apologizing for any inconvenience it may have caused. In the email was a code for a 10% discount on any one purchase from ebay before Dec.14. I guess ebay made up the 10% difference to the seller of the item.

The Jagpanther comes in 2 camoflage variants, tan base and green base.
It's nice to see with newer models, HL is supplying tools and accessories on sprues rather than molded on.
Plan on upgrading them at all?
Are yours the smoke and sound versions, airsoft or IR?
I've got the Stug which is a lot of fun but not the JP yet.

Great buy, and yes the paint jobs on these are pretty bad, but there are a ton of after market parts for these.
I believe if anyone wants large scale armor they will be forced to go RC, look at what they are offering now compared to static models either 1:18 or 1:16.
I have several 1:16 RC tanks and really bought them for the scale, but have to admit they are fun to run around.
I realize that most of the problem lays in the fact that this is a small scale model collectors forum and not RC, and if you start putting to much emphasis on the RC part it takes away what this forum is about.
There are several forums for RC tanks, maybe we should have a place for members to show their tanks, but not get in to all the details of "RC"ing. Just a thought.

Yep. The paint on all of the 1/16 is very plain. At the very least, a good black or sepia wash will improve the looks 100%. They are pretty much a blank canvas as far as weathering goes.
If you have never seen the amount of customizing accessories you can get for the 1/16 pieces, go to tankzone.co.uk and look at the upgrade parts. Going to pick up some of these engine grill screens for the Jagdpanther. Probably cheaper to make my own out of some of the screen material I have seen, but I take shortcuts when I can.

I think the difference between this site and RC sites is that serious RC guys are probably not going to be here. They are concerned more with upgrading motors, electronics, controllers, etc. Any upgrading I do will be appearance items only. I am not an RC guy and don't belong to any RC sites other than online dealers that you have to log into. I just like to do some "washes" and light weathering, add some appearance accessories, and then put it on display. I think in a way we are lucky that the RC hobby seems to be alive and well so those that want to continue to collect armor, though it be slightly larger than 1/18, have models to at least consider. Someone mentioned in an earlier thread that the 1/18 hobby as we knew it several years ago is gone, at least for the foreseeable future. We will probably continue to see the occasional 1/18 release from JSI and maybe FOV. Passed on the F-14 but they ever do make that SU-27, thats one 1/18 I will most likely get.

I am a military enthusiast, so I have both collectors items and R/C tanks. You'll find that R/C tankers are interested in both appearance and performance, not just one aspect of the hobby. Heck, even some of them just collect the HL tanks and not even run them.
I do like to build and collect, so I do have Tamiya tanks and conversion kits for the HL tanks as well. Little if any is done to the upgrading part of the electronics but more to the appearance as most are done as they are built.
It is too bad that 1/18 has dried up ... for now. The 1/16 armor is readily available and sometimes cheaper. There is a company in the US
http://www.etoarmour.com/ that sells upgrade parts, so you can save a little in shipping. Granted, they don't have everything Tank Zone has but most of that stuff is a lot different than what ETO Armor sells anyway. ETO Armor tends to carry the elite in aftermarket parts.

Most 1/16 rc guys are into upgrades and customizing, one reason for the basic paint and standard plastic threads and gearboxes, course those won't holdup for serious rc battle tank action.
I just love the things and will buy them when they come out.

i consider 1/16 a close cousin of 1/18 and see no problem in discussing 1/16 armour here, given the virtually complete lack of 1/18 armour. If 1/18 armour was booming it would be a different story probably but it ain't, so it ain't.
The r/c part doesn't interest me at all. Like r/c planes, i consider the performance aspect of r/c tanks to be very unrealistic and non-scale looking. Aside from the turret turning feature which i do like. Even the sound effects and smoke etc aren't all that great, in my view and the gun recoil is kinda not great too, but i know lots love em and more power to them for it.
For me r/c stuff, whether it be planes, tanks or ships are purely to supplement my static display collection, and remain static, with very rare exceptions and limited use, like the tank turret rotation, i just mentioned.

Tamiya tanks move and operate much more realistic and scale looking than the toy-ish Heng Long tanks do. Porportional throttle and steering helps that.
That's why most of us who buy a HL tank upgrade it to Tamiya electronics for the realism.

I've always liked the Jagdpanther, did a custom 1:18th back in '01.
This 1:16th Jagdpanther is Heng Long? If so its very interesting because the tank commander (in hotrodrock's 4th pic) is the Tamiya tank commander figure. I have the same figure which came with my Tamiya King Tiger Porsche Turret kit.
Is HL part of Tamiya or is this another knock off company?
The Tamiya 1:16th fig is the same scale as 21st's 1:18th figures. I'm working on a custom tanker with 21st arms and head on the 1:16th torso. I'll have to get some Pics.

I have posted pics before of 1/18 figures next to the 1/16 figures that come with all of the Heng Long armor. They are the exact same size.
