Small Scale Military Headquarters

Ok, we all are still into 1/18 armor, but the truth is that its very slow and not likely to improve any time soon. There seems to be some of the members who are slowly moving towards 1/16 simply because there is no other choice. There might not be a big market for it, but what if the RC companies like Heng Long and Matorro were to offer their products without the electronics? There should be no modifications required what so ever on the assembly line, just don't put the electonics in. Not sure how much that would cut the cost, but the overall average for a HL or Matorro piece of armor is around $100 without shipping. I would think the price might drop to even below the price of a JSI piece.

The price for the 1/16 kettenkrads and Pumas are certainly out of my reach, but without the RC parts I might be able to scrape enough together for one. I would dang near kill for one of those Pumas. All of the 1/16 RC armor that I have has never been run a single time so I know there are those like me who want them just for static display and customizing, especially with the extras available for them. About the only real inaccuracy with them are the gun barrels but there are aftermarket accurate barrels for them. Anyway, I guess I have turned into one of the members who daydreams about what could be.

Thats actually a pretty sweet Idea, I'd love to get the Leopard but I can't see me paying 2-3K for one. I'd get a couple of Rooskie tanks if the price was right. I'll probably get one anyway.

the electronics are actually pretty inexpensive so the cost cut would be minimal...proably less than $20. Your idea is along the lines of 'airframe only' r/c planes that are sold with little or no electronics, just the painted airframe...those are quite popular because guys want to put in their own, better, engines, servos etc. Not sure if there would be the same demand with the tanks.

Outisde of us, i don't know how much demand there would be for it, so i can't see heng long and the others going for it. Besides, they know we'll buy their stuff anyways so they can sell us a bunch of cheap electronics and make a bit more money with the regular r/c tanks.

1/16 tanks take a bit of getting used to, along side of 1/18 stuff, but i've found once you make the 'transition' they really don't bother me that much, like they used to. And with so many juicy choices and a brighter future for 1/16, it's easier to forgive the fact they're a bit robust.

Not a bad idea at all. I usually display my toys separately with a small grouping of troops in and around them so I don't think the size difference would be that noticeable on my shelves. Bob

I have four of the RCs just because there was'nt any other option and 95% of the time they sit static with no batteries.

Yet, I have to admit every now and then its a blast to put batteries in them and have alittle fun. I missed out on the 1:18 armor, by the time I found that scale there were very few offerings other than Ebay and I found that I could buy a RC tank cheaper than a static 1:18.
