JSI Tomcat Repaint

Post by mcaulk » Mon Dec 07, 2009 8:59 am

Big Cat Owners,

Have my big cat paid for and enroute. Last night stumbled upon a YouTube walk around of the big plane and got my first look up close. Mixed emotions. The detail and dimensions look really good! Shape seems spot on and the panel lines and rivets are not overdone. The only negative is the "weathering" it looks splotchy, out of scale and amateurish. Having said that it should not be too difficult to fix the paint job. These planes really corroded quickly when on deployment in the salt air. Support personnel used various shades of the original colors to paint over bad spots so they looked pretty nasty. Now the spots on these birds are way to big so it will take some airbrushing but should no be that big a deal.

I am also considering just doing a complete make over in the low viz two tone gray. I'm not a great fan of the high viz paint job anyway.
