Anyone Notice....................

Post by MightyMustang » Tue May 31, 2005 12:04 pm

On BadCats website that 21st Centuries New-Tooled P-51 is no longer pictured? I did. Very strange. The photo of the Mustang has been replaced by a 1/18th Japanese Figure but the Avenger and BF-109 is still there along with other soon to be released items. I called Bad Cat about it and they said that 21st told them to pull it without an explanation.

Any of you guys have a theory or an explanation on what may or may not happened?

Just curious.

idea?

Theory only:
The picture served no purpose except to increase traffic on his site - it was not the final paint scheme, it was not the final mold, and it was not an official photo but rather from TF coverage. It's very presence was a sham really, when the average person would look at it, shrug, and then pre-order the gorgeous paint prototypes of the bbi P-51s.
I can't think of one reason why 21st would want that photo on Rob's site.....

Also notice they have the 32x P-40 as "postponed indefinitely".. This plane is already sitting on my shelf at home.. I bought it at Walmart last week..

Hey digger. I agree with your post in some respect. But why hasnt 21st released a photo of their Mustang like BadCat has on their website of the Avenger or BF-109. Now I'm sure those arent the final molds or the final paint schemes either but yet they are still on there.

The photo of the 21st Mustang may have been a shot taken from a Toy show but at least it gave you a taste of what we "might" be seeing down the road, like a teaser if you will.

Now 21st tells BadCat to pull the photo? And not give an explanation as to why? Seems strange to me.

Could it be that 21st MAY have scrapped the idea of the Mustang like that of their 1/32nd Thunderbolt and P-40? I know that may not be the case but it may not be to far fetched either.

That is the official pick of the 109G, & the Avenger. Just like the bbi P-51 "may vary," so may the Avenger...you get the idea.
That P-51 photo is not official, and obviously not a "taste" of what's to come, if what to come is much better. I bet you've never seen a pic of a bbi plane half done - ever wonder why?

Now, as for this comment:
"Could it be that 21st MAY have scrapped the idea of the Mustang like that of their 1/32nd Thunderbolt and P-40? I know that may not be the case but it may not be to far fetched either."
  No chance - guaranteed there will be a new P-51, and I have a feeling it will give all other 1/18 AC a run for their money....(except maybe the Avenger  ).
Btw, isn't there a 32x p-40 out right now? What P-40 were you talking about?

Not happening.. The P-40 is already out on Walmarts shelves and the P-47 is supposed to hit sometime in July-August..

With the way things have been going regarding newly released products, I don't put too much faith in the "press" releases anymore. It just makes things a whole lot easier by just waiting until the product actually hits the market.

Why would any dealer in their right mind promote 21st products when this type of thing happens time and again. Imagine being a dealer, spending money on advertising of 21st products, then getting nothing and having to watch while WM gets the goods. As I've said before, there is no love affair between 21st and its dealers.

As for the mustang, why show a plane like the 21st P-51 that may or may not be made, that has no official photos, and no official paint? The BBI birds are the real deal and definitely on the way. Given recent history, it is a "no brainer" which aircraft should be promoted and which should be yanked.

Easy there, Rob would have to sell a lot of Mustang repaints to replace the 20 planes by 21C he's got :P

Why would Rob or anybody else pay good money to display or advertise this Mustang when WM will probably get it months in advance or exclusively altogether? Would you? It simply doesn't make any sense to me. My limited Ebay dealings leave me as something less than a successful businessman and more of an armchair tycoon, but it seems to make complete sense that these apparitions disappear in favor of solid, tangible plastic.

Now I do think that the 21st Mustang WILL be made. WHEN is the big question.

Also noticed that the "Sky Captain" P-40 has been pulled from Bad Cat's "coming soon" page. I wonder if Bad Cat gave up on waiting for it? Or perhaps it was decided they would not stock it?
One hundred and fifty three - 1:18 scale aircraft on the ceiling looks  damn good!

If you ever call Bad Cat Toys and a person answers asking,

“Bad Cat Toys, this is Matt, may I help you?”

That is me! Just incase you were wondering, I read this board. I have decided to stop this rumor. No one including MightyMustang has called to ask about the 21st Century Mustang and it’s removal from the website. Also, no one from Bad Cat would have told him that 21st had us pull the photo off of the site because that it not true at all.

Glad to see you guys are all enjoying yourselves and the hobby. I may just have to stop in here again someday.

Matt

Rob. I'm not ranting or starting a flame war all I just stated is what I was told by some woman rep at BadCat. I have no problem with Matt at all.

Enough said, Matt cleared it up, now lets move on!
