Well at what was it, $750 a piece will any one ever be getting one?
Thats crazy! is it just me or has skyworks gone up as the economy gose down?

their prices have about doubled since they first started making planes. I can't imagine anyone paying that for a resin model but i guess they feel they can get it.

I sure won't be buying anything of theirs ever.

I did get one of the Tony kits for $324, notwithstanding Pickel's and others problems with Skyworks. I landed up selling one of my F-16s to help with the price

The Tony has always been one of my favorite WW2 aircraft and I can't wait to paint it as a 244th sentai version. It is a well built and detailed resin kit, so you can see the time invested to create it.

Would love to have a Toni, but can't afford those prices. MTS has the Skyworks Spit on sale for $249. It sure looks nice, but still too expensive for me. This hobby in general is leaving me in the dust.

In all good conscience I don't know if I could buy one now even if I did have the money, which I don't so I won't, but I wouldn't anyway.

I think there are a few very high-end wealthy collectors out there for whom price is really not an issue. I suppose this is the clientele for this sort of thing.

First pic is Latest Silver kit for Tony. This is by far the best Skyworks product so far. Not cheap by XD standards but if you compare to other 1:18 Aircraft Resin Kits these are a bargain for what you get.

It looks like some one blow up a 1/48 kit in to a 1/18th kit....no working features and minimal details....but hey its 1/18th so I guess we are lucky.....are we.

You are correct about no working details, but very wrong about it having minimal details!!

I don't know what 1/18th scale aircraft you have been collecting, but this one has as much (or more) detail than the best.

Not trying to get in a contest but don't knock it if you haven't seen it or just don't like Skyworks

This gives me an excuse to sell some of my overflow and streamline my collection.

That kit does look nicely detailed.
I'm not familiar with resin.
Is it fragile, does it break easily, do you have to handle with extreme care for fear of breakage?

I think this Tony looks impressive.
With that said for me it comes down to the cost of the plane and the landing gear. For the money I personally would need the gear to operate. But that's just me.

I'm goning to take the other point of view from tko and say that I'd take a static undercarriage - if it meant more detail. I hate the way some of the 1/18 aircraft have kickass detailing, then a single molded landing gear strut / landing gear doors. The pic of all the tony parts layed out - as VMF115 said - did remind me of a smaller scale plastic kit, and lately i've seen more detail in some 1/48 kits than some of the 1/18 planes.
Seeing all those parts ready to be assembled made me ache to own one. So basically i'm going YAY for the separately molded undercarriage on the tony (could've done with more detail in the cockpit?). The price however will take a little getting used to.

This is the kind of detail I would like to see in a 1/18th kit!!!!
even if the lading gear was plug and play and the other stuff worked or moved it would be treat.

I am seeing more advancements in detail in 1/24,1/32,and like jay said 1/48. I still think 1/18th has a chance but it must offer stunning details for a good price if this hobby is to grow. there is a huge untapped market with the modeling crowd who would love nothing more then a good detailed 1/18th bird or tank. Many modelers I talked to expressed the need for detail and accuracy for them to buy. also many would love to see 1/18th kits, but not if it meant less details for more money.

I will get off my soap box since you all have heard me sing this song many times. for the most part I am happy that some one is making something like the tony in 1/18 but not at the price or the level of detail.

I actually started this company by trying to fix what was wrong with 1/18 models,and I completely agree with you, standard of 1/18 productions was to toyish, that is why my Tony is made with completely different philosophy, attention to detail, and the way the smaller 1/32 for example models are made ,now because resin medium allows much more molded in detail that is why you guys could be confused, see in a typical plastic injection kit you have a lots of parts you have to glue together to come up with one sub assembly ,there for you could think kit is detailed ,with resin you can cast them as one part .So now we have detailed kit with minimal part count that is why bottom of the wing is one piece ,that is why all the little doors and access panels are in already, that is also why it is Fast and easy to build . There is always trade off, detailed landing gear and plug in,versus retractable and not so great, look at Spitfire or FW190 21CT landing gear and you see problem engineers have to face . I fix bough of this in my FW190 and Spitfire so accusing SkyWorks of lack of detail is not fair, cause we try to beat typical 1/18 standards http://skyworkstoys.com/images/236_DSC0 ... As my late dad was an award winning modeler, he hated these prebuilt 1/18 collector items. " put us modelers out of business" I sent him two 1/18 planes, he didn't even take them out of the box. And the single bomb bay doors on the Avenger, well for a detail guy, that was just unforgivable.

There are quite a few out there with that mindset, one reason all these cottage industries have cropped up with the resin kits, photo etching etc... Tamiya has re issued some of their 1/12 Formula 1 cars with photo etch and cast metal parts.

Once a kit company starts including those in as standard other companies have to add them to keep selling, promoting super detailed and lots of growth.

You also need to realize someone like Jack is not producing subjects on a mass production scale like JSI, bbi, etc.. Costs have to be spread over a very small production number in comparison. Don't forget that profit has to be realized to some degree to keep the producer interested too.
