Small Scale Military Headquarters

In many threads on Groundpounders, I hear people moaning about lack of space to display their XD collections. It is a real problem! I buy these white plastic snap-together plastic shelves. The brand is "Dura-shelf", made by Plano Co. I get the 907 model. One set is 12" deep by 32" long by 48" high, with four shelves. Then I got a plastic- pipe saw, which I use to cut the shelf posts in half. That way, I have a unit with eight shelves. I put these units two-deep against the walls in our "guest bedroom", and have another two-deep row in the middle of the room. You can display lots of XD stuff this way! Try It!

Right on ! These shelves are made by Contico, and are 18"deep, 72" high, and 36"wide. Even mounted lights under the shelves to accent the display

The picture is a little misleading in regards to my complete collection, however. You can't see the Stuka hanging to the left of the Spitfire, and there are 11 other aircraft besides that plus the 15 armored vehicles, four buildings, and 100+ figures - and thats just the 1:18 scale military collection! The Armor, Figures, and some of the planes are in the cupboards in the center, and the rest are temporairly in storage.

Yes it is, good call. The Red Baron is at the other end and the P-51 is a MegaBlocks kit

You know... the lego aircraft almost look 1:18 scale!

Anyway, I hang all my aircraft in one room at the moment. It's getting rather full though, so I may have to think of alternate solutions

ww2collecter: Thanks for the pix. I myself do not have a digital camera or the computer expertise to post pictures. The Plano Dura-shelf shelves I use are white, with a kind of filligree on the shelf edges. The white color sets off the models better than dark gray, IMHO. Y'all can get 'em at Wal-Mart (Eww!) or at Lowe's Home Improvement. Regarding your own nice display, now run those babies two-deep and you'll really have an airfield. Or trim 1/3 off the support columns with a plastic-pipe saw, and fit more models in vertically. Now if I could only drive off my neighbor and take over his house! Hmmm!

this method works ok for me; i never liked hanging them from the ceiling because no one can see all of the detail these planess have. this way you can walk up to them and spin the prop and look inside the cockpits.

Thrud, what do you use to hang them like that. I've been thinking about doing that for some time. Nice display. They really look good on that painted wall.

I hang them from the tail with some "Invisible" fishing line. I forget what pound test line it is. The line isn't the typical white color of fishing line. It's kind of brown in color and very hard to see unless you're right up on it. A single small nail where the ceiling meets the wall it what holds up each row.

I like the way our Fan Club pesident displays his planes on his driveway!

Yeah I have the same problem - lack of space and sooo much stuff (well "much stuff" is relative)...
ww2collecter - you've got a great space there..nice and clean way to display too. When I get a bigger place my plan also is to dedicate a room (got diagrams ready and everything...and sometimes it even keeps me awake at nights - no kidding!!)

anyway the way my apt. is set up right now..a feng sheui expert would say im in trouble!!!

unfortunately most all of my helos and planes are now in boxes (just no room) plus im an armor guy..so we've seen lots of plane displays - this one's for us armor fans!

for those who wonder what are in the boxes - 1:18 modern & WWII 21st and bbi, McFarlane Movie Maniacs (and soon to be the military line), Dusty Trails figs, LOTR figs, more SW figs, 1:6 vehicles and figs....think that's it.

I should start my own toy company - first of the list 1:18 romans!

Nice 1:6 displays and I love the Romans. Makes me want to get a legion of my own!
