I was looking at my BBI F-16 and was thinking I really hate how it appears out of scale with my F-18 and soon to have F-14. Would there be any interest in a new F-16 in True 1/18?

Actually I like the F-16 better than the F-14, or 15 or 18.

Missed out on the falcon n would like a chance to get one. Had no idea its out of scale.. is it under or over?

It looks about 5 to 10% overscale to me. Its pretty obvious if you look at the missles on it.

it's 6% over scale. About 1/16.9 scale.

The thing is i can't imagine anyone making one. Any potential maker is going to feel the market has been largely satisfied by BBI's offering, with too little new sales potential on another similar sized one.

judging on ebay transactions done last many months, think a lot of folks still lookin for these, me included.

so whats bbi doin with the falcon mould, under lock n key? any chance they'd release a new scheme once they waken from their slumber?

If they made a new one that was true to 1/18th and had features that Bbi does not have it will sell very well.

I am on the fence on this one.

As I have all the BBI F-16's made,including every ANG unit done by Badcat,another release would reduce the value of my collection somewhat.

But I would be interested in getting other squadrons at the same time.

yes it's a minor irritant that it's overscale but i bet 90% of the people who have one don't even realize it. At this point i've got so many things in my collection that are a bit off scale, i hardly even notice it any more. I bet most of us diehard 1/18 collectors have a few pieces in their collections that are a bit big or small...almost unavoidable in this hobby, given the sparcity of new releases and a universe full of interesting things.

When you get right down to it exactness of scale isn't that important..i mean how often do you really make long hard size comparisons between models. You may notice significant size differences but how many people go "so that's how big an me-109 wing is compared to a sherman tank turret...or, care for that matter.

And anyway, lots of other 1/18 stuff has portions that are out of scale...over sized canopies being the most common but there are other things. As long as it's a big model and is close to 1/18 i'm usually happy.

But having said that i still can't stand how my 1/16 t-34 looks next to my 1/18 tanks.

Really wish the T-birds paint scheme hadn't been canceled!

An accurately scaled F-16 with more armnament options than BBI's would be great.

One nice thing about having true 1/18 scale in a collection is that admirers can get a sense of the individual vehicles personality. "Yes, that's how big an F-18 would be next to a 109" or "the Avenger was that big compared to the Hellcat..."

yes but does a variation of 6% greatly alter that perception of 'personality'? I mean it's noticable but i don't think it's overly significant as it's still pretty much the right size. It's nice to have things perfect but that's rare to find and desiring perfection can spoil the enjoyment of what you have. And sometimes things are wrong and you don't even know it. As i said i bet 90% of bbi F-16 owners have no idea it's a bit too big. And most of them probably love it. If they were all now informed that it's too big, i bet a good chunk of them would like it less, and that's a bit of a shame. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Anyone wanting to continue on in this scale is either going to have to learn to be extremely patient and put up with a lot of frustration, or learn to compromise a bit and accept things that aren't quite perfect.

I've been juggling with this for years. I'm not really interested in collecting another scale but i find a lot of things very interesting and desire models of them. Trying to find how far off scale i can go and still accept a model is what i've been doing for a couple of years now.

I've learned that i can stray a lot more with aircraft than i can with armour and that with some aircraft types i can be more tolerant than others. The furthest off scale i've gone is my 1/22.5 c-119. It's a cool looking plane and i don't really care if it's a bit underscale....it just isn't very important to me. But there is no way i would add a 1/22.5 b-29 to my collection. For some aircraft types scale is more important to me than others. Why, i don't know but it's a fact.
