A-10 in 1/18 scale on hold for a few weeks !!

OK Guys,
I am fishing. I feel that I can do an XD style A-10. Airplanes are my passion but I love armor as well.
I do have a history of making LARGE SCALE R/C airplanes so this should not be that big of a hurdel.
I feel that I could make a A-10 KIT for about $350 - $400.
A kit that the average modeler can put together.
This would be a LARGE KIT.
I FEEL IF I COULD GET 14 PEOPLE TO COMMITMENT I COULD DO THIS.
There has been a lot of talk of people wanting one. If I did a " one of " the price would be about $1, 500 .
Another guy who does 1/18 scale is saying that he could make a " one of " for about $4,000 - $7,000. I think you guys know who I am talking about.
So for $350-$400 a lot of you dreams will come true.
If I were to do this . I WOULD NEED A DEPOSIT TO GET STARTED ON THIS PROJECT.
Another option is that I will build 5 only at $650 each and move on to another project.
Again this would be in a typical XD style format.
If I do this . IT WILL BE AFTER THE M-10 AND SDKFZ 222
Any bites ?

I just vote #1 just to see the votes so one dose not officially count
But im not to big into modern since limited space I would rather do ww2.
But Just a suggestion....I think some would love you to clone the cannon of the top of the 1/18 sdkf7251/7 and I would LOVE a kenttenkrad I think that is the way it is spelled????

As cool as an A-10 would be the price tag is out of my league. I would like to see one made though, hopefully there are enough paying customers for you to move forward with this project.

I guess my question would be how detailed would it be for the money? I would love an A-10, but for that amount of coin it would have to have alot of features short of flying itself. What I'd settle for is very detailed exterior, bombload, and detailed cockpit and opening canopy. I'm not much for control surfaces save the basic ones (rudder, ailerons). Gear could be optional up or down, no need to be retractable.

My thoughts are along the same as Jericoe.
The detail level he mentioned would be what I'd like to see too.
Only thing I wonder at this time is will JSI in time produce one since they seem to be answering the call for 1/18 modern jets?

When you say it would be in the 21st XD style, do you mean that it would already be painted and we would just have to install wings and tail? If so, I could go to the 4oo.oo range. If it is unpainted and I am left to do the work, then I would have to pass. Just not enough skill here for me to do.

What I would prefer is irrelevant at this point, as I am broke.

I would also want a painted & completed model.
I just don't have the time required to build & paint anymore.
I would be willing to go to $500 - $700 range for that.

I would love to see one. I would want it to have moving control surfaces and retractable gear. Can you give us an idea of what you are thinking of as far as detail for the $.
Thanks,
T

Well the thing is this. I could make a r/c plane that flys with retracts ducted fans and probably be over 8 feet wing span.
This project would cost about $3,000.
The thing you guys do not relize maybe you do that is takes a lot of time and effert to make.
This would be a big plane. The resin alone will probably cost $75 per plane.
That is resin in the bottle. It will take about 1-2 weeks to build the master. Then It will take about 3'4 days to make the moulds.
Cost of the RTV will be about $800 THERE WILL BE BIG PARTS.
Then It will take about a day to CAST ONE AIR PLANE. If I am lucky.
I would love to sell them at $100 but if the resin cost me $75 per plane it will not be worth it.
As I said before this will be in the XD format . Panel lines cockpit and probably landing gear that plugs and un plugs.
Here is XD detailing.
The more detail you put in a project = more money. There are new ways that I am thinking of making this to make it a little cheaper.
I am working on getting a painter but for now most of everything I make and sell will be in white unpainted resin.
Sky--- sells his stuff at twice the price finished. But they are smaller WW2 planes. Again he charges twice the price.
Almost everybody who actually makes custom XD say that I sell my stuff to cheap . I KNOW THIS BECAUSE THE OTHER CUSTOMIZERS ( YOU KNOW WHO THEY ARE ) ALL TO A MAN SAY SO.
I know $350-$400 is a lot of money but this may be the only chance you will ever see an A-10.
So a few more days and a few more comments and we will all see if this will actually come to life.

Following numerous contacts with PH and receiving my French Air force P 36 / H 75 from him, i am seriously thinking about this A 10 project but my budget is running tight with so many incoming ! I am sure that the quality will be incredible for this much awaited model !
The more we order the lower the price so please let's order 10 or 20 models !!!!

I build a lot of Studio Scale Sci Fi models and I just paid $300 for a 1/24 scale Viper Mk II from Battlestar Galactica. It is tiny compared to what we are talking about here. If you can do this in the $400 neighborhood, you are doing great. I mean the JSI F-14 is a mass produced, injection molded plane and it is $220. I really hope you do this project, I am so in.

Matthew,
I'd be in for $250-$400. I know you'll do an awesome job on this. I also know that you're really not making a profit on the things you've already done. I think everyone needs to realize that what they'll be getting is a hand crafted product! As far as I know, hand crafted > mass manufacturing.
Thanks for putting this to a vote. I hope you get enough commitments to make it!

I need to talk to a few other guys about this project. I am also trying to get a couple of painters ligned up to see if I can do a turn key A-10. I will find this out on Monday.
I have a meeting planned.
This project will be a milestone in our beloved XD. This project (if it happens ) may be the first ever in history that will be dictated buy the input from the collectors who would want it.
I am happy to be a part of it. Release the doves.

I have a question, how rigid/strong will be the resins your using?
