what if XD had never happened?

Post by aferguson » Thu Jul 30, 2009 3:29 pm

i think it's safe to say that many of us here are diehard 1/18 military fans. But what if XD had never happened? 21c never came up with the idea or TRU had never taken it on. What would your life be like if XD had never happened?.....

I would have a lot more money. No, I take that back. I would have just spent it on something else! :D
"I can stop collecting 1:18 scale anytime, really I can. OOoh, the new Stuka re-paint! I don't have that one.

I would probably be in to 1/32.

I would have a lot more money and less memories :(

Without XD, I probably would never have started collecting toys, of any kind.

I got into because my son bought me a XD Command Car only because we had owned a 1/1 CC. He knew I'd get a kick out of the accuracy and workmanship that 21C put into it.

If XD never happened, there would be no TTT. I'd sure have plenty of room, that's fur sure, dang sure.

I'd still be around into 1/1 MV sites with some of my old ID's and still active sites.

TOP 10 THINGS I WOULD HAVE IF XD NEVER HAPPENED: presented by TKO.

10. have more space in my house.
9. have more respect from my wife.
8. saved some money.
7. have more space in my garage.
6. never been president of Area-21.
5. saved many spare hours spent modeling.
4. have more space in my closets.
3. would not know how many steps it takes to go from the car to the toy isle at WM & TRU.
2. have more space in my bathroom
AND FINALLY:
1. not have as many geek friends who share the same XD addiction!

Had XD never happened...

I would not have a ton of cool military models of planes, tanks, vehicles, and figures that I didn't have to build myself.

I would have saved a TON of money.

I would have fewer good memories.

I would not have "met" the great members of this board.

I would not have "met" the idiot members of this board.

I would have had less collecting anxiety.

I would have continued what I was collecting before XD and found something else.

I still would not have ever set foot in a Wal Mart.

I would have saved a TON of money.

I would have collected BBI, FOV, and AT products.
(Though one could assume those companies got their ideas by following 21c's example  )

I would be building models in 1/48,1/35 and 1/24 scale and buying more 1/18 scale diecast cars and trucks.

My half-bath was where I kept all of my 1/6 G.I. Joe, 21st, and Dragon figures. Could only get the door open enough to squeeze in occasionaly to look at them and think "what the hell am I going to do with all this". The two rented storage rooms were already full.

Well, I was just starting to get into 1/6 when XD began. Sold off most of my 1/6 (kept a few, select figures) and concentrated on XD. So without XD, I'd proably have gone with 1/6....

I would probably be able to stuff my flying styro birds with rc components instead of looking at the boxes and weeping. I would probably build my 1/32nd and 1/24th scale warbirds including the Awesome 1/32nd scale Avenger by Trumpeter and the 1/32nd scale Airacobra by Special Hobbies I have laying around. Oh, and I can't forget all those unbuilt vintage Robotech Defenders kits I have to build as well. And maybe, just maybe, a fresh 3-Valve motor from a 2005+ Mustang for my poor 99 GT, but thats a stretch.

I would have more 1:32,1:48,and 1:72 aircraft.
I was collecting before XD,and will continue to collect if 1:18 goes the way of the Dodo.

1:18 is among my favourite scales however, and I would really miss my F-16's,and F-18's.

And just like everyone else here,I would have more room. :D

I would have kept collecting militaria and probably gone into 1/6 scale R/C armor.

I finishing my large scale R/C aircaft phase before I got into XD.

I was Bigtime into Verlinden 1:16th figures and Armor but the cost was getting to be to much......$20.00 to $30.00 a figure plus paint and Armor kits.......$250.00 and higher. Did I mention these all had to be built and painted? Oh and my Tamiya 1:16th King Tiger kit almost $400.00.

I still remember the day I saw my first 21st Century 1:18th Panther at TRU
That was 1999/2000 if XD never happened? I don't know....I left the smaller scales because they were to small. (guys give it a few years and you'll know what I'm saying. as your eye sight starts to go, you need to go to a larger scale)
I'm just happy 21st / Mr. Allen took the big first step into this scale. 1:18th which has been affordable gave us a wow factor that was just beyond anything else.

With out it ...We wouldn't be here..........

I would've continued to buy 1:6 scale figures like I had already been doing.
You have to remember when XD first came out, all the authentic looking 21st and GI Joe Anniversary 1:6 figures and vehicles were at their peak. All kinds of cool stuff, and lots of firsts in the vehicle department, but because of size restrictions no aircraft. Though there was a picture of a 1:6 P-51 on one of their 40th Ann. Pilot packs ( I thought how cool and huge would that be? ) That's why I went gaga when I saw my first XD plane.

Well my 1/18 car garage would be ALOT fuller. I actually had about 30 autoart models at one stage but they were stolen  . I was left with a couple of loose cars and my S1 Stuka (my first XD). After that I kind of rebought a few of my cars but really focused on XD from that point............... It was either that or My Little Pony. I still think fondly back on those ponies but I've made my own choices in life, and I'll live with them *sigh*xoxo
