a new r/c plane just released. Exactly 1/18. Not crazy about the colour choices but it can always be repainted. $81 plus shipping. Something a little exotic for a change..

Thats pretty sweet and not too expensive. I like the grey and red paint jobs. But would probably paint them in Iranian colors.

I always loved the look of the Draken, in my book the F-100 and the Draken are the only to A/C that look like its going fast while sitting on the ground.

I bought a high quality r/c thinking that perhaps it may not be noticeable that it was made of styrofoam (a French Rafael). You have to stand mighty far back and the lighting has to be mighty poor to not see it is styrofoam. I'll hold out for the plastic ones.

yes you need to stand back about 5 feet or so and then the foam texture disappears. To be honest, i don't think any of the 21c or bbi planes look all that hot close up either. You can see gaps, join lines, screw holes, over done rivets, panel lines too deep or out of scale, perhaps qc issues etc. which i find every bit as noticable as foam texture. (Take a look at the Avenger underside close up and you can see a couple of dozen screw hole covers.)

I consider all 1/18 toys to be stand off models....you step back a few feet and they look fantastic but from close up, not so much. And that's the beauty of this scale. Smaller scales you need to get very close to the model to appreciate it, but when you do all the little flaws jump out at you too. But with 1/18, they are so large you can step back a few feet and the little flaws vanish but the model is still easy to appreciate at that distance.

I agree. Any larger and I think the model would need to be nearly perfect for the irregularities not to be obvious at almost any distance. 1/32 is just too tiny to appreciate the details. 1/18 is about perfect as far as I am concerned for displaying planes.

It looks pretty nice. I wonder if they make the Viggen.

One sweet jet. Yeah I would take 1, ahhh on second thought I would get just about any plane or jet in 1:18.
